ohio was not properly represented by their democratic senator, sherrod brown, because he did not get the point across. joining me now is the senator who spoke to the president last night. what did you talk about? >> he talked about -- well, he and i -- i first approached president trump way earlier in the year and we had a long conversation in june and i asked him to step in there because the second shift, already 3,000 people had been laid off and the president didn't do anything. i reached him last night and he said he wanted to help and i said the first thing you can help is take away the provision in the tax bill that gives a company 50% off in taxes. if you pay a 21% tax rate and if you move to mexico, you pay a 10% tax break. he was not really aware of that, but he said he would help and he said he would sign on to my american jobs, american cars act which will incent car buying for buying american cars. he said he wants to help. he put he in touch with his u.s. trade representative, an ohioian, i might add. we will move forward and hope it gets through congress. >> he said he

also as an ohioan, i find it interesting to see yesterday's sherrod brown, he did pretty well. he won i believe it was about 53-47. for the senate seat. in just about every other statewide race the democrats just -- they weren't crushed. when you look at the governor's race where mike dewine beat cordray, i would say that was also 53-47. when they ran against each for attorney general back in 2010, that was within a percentage point. it upsets me a little bit that the democrats -- we focus too much on all the issues that are going on that we don't have enough time to stop and say what are we doing wrong? that's how we end up being able to take the house by a slim margin but lose the senate. we made some good gains in some of the gubernatorial races yesterday. host: let me ask you about the governor's race. the one with mike dewine, former senator, and richard cordray, former head of the consumer financial protection bureau. were you expecting mr. cordray to win that race? caller: i don't know if i was expecting him to win simply because when you look at name recognition in ohio

and i say that publicly. >> sherrod brown says the election was stolen. do you agree that it was stolen and do you think that brian kemp is not the legitimate governor-elect of georgia? >> the law, as it stands, says that he received an adequate number of votes to become the governor of georgia, and i acknowledge the law as it stands. i am a lawyer by training and i have taken the constitutional oath to uphold the law. but we know sometimes the law does not do what it should and something being legal does not make it right. this is someone who has compromised our systems. he has compromised our democratic systems and that is not appropriate. therefore my mission is to make certain that no one has to face this conversation going forward we're going to ensure that voter protection is more than a slogan, that it's actually a common cause that cuts across partisanship. there are republicans who were harmed, democrats who were harmed, independents who were harmed. one of the original 13 colons, founding blocks of our democracy and i want georgia to be better.

the governor's race is happening there, and senator sherrod brown is seeking reelection. how do those top of the ticket races impact the house? nathan: president trump did very well in ohio in 2016, we are seeing sherrod brown, i believe he will win reelection. that race was not nearly as competitive as what republicans wanted a stop trump's performance in the last presidential race. that governor's race is a top-tier race. it is an open seat, governor john kasich is not able to seek another term. you have mike dewine running against richard cordray. the democratic nominee. that is an economic race. -- a net connect race. susan: two high-profile candidates. mike dewine has been serving as ohio's attorney general. richard cordray was head of the consumer protection bureau. what about those two politicians facing off against one another? nathan: is a stark contrast. democrats are trying to portray attorney general dewine as a lifelong politician. he has been in office decades. but cordray has held office in ohio and served in the obama administration. republicans are trying

barker: another progressive who did really well is sherrod brown in ohio. i would say he's somebody to keep your eye on. jonathan: although the margin in ohio was closer than we thought. this is also one of those things. besides the obvious senate numbers, i think one of the most ominous signs for democrats on tuesday night were the margins in some of the senate races that they won. they were much closer than they expected. ohio and michigan are the two that come to mind. everybody knew sherry brown and debbie sabin would win their reelections, but the fact that it was less than 10 points in both cases, in one's case it was five points and mansion closer. that gets to the democratic challenge with working-class white voters. even in these races that are not terribly competitive where the democrat has much more money, it doesn't matter. even in my state in virginia, cory stewart ran basically as a sort of mini-me of donald trump. doing like pretty naked racial provocations. he cracked 40% of the vote in a blue state. the reason for that is, you look at the m
