they already face competition against hulu and amazon. at&t is also streaming. the increase is not that bad. for $11, that is what netflix was at. amazon is that $13. that is also bundled with their shipping. you can pay yearly. overall, netflix was the biggest bargain on the planet. they have to pay for all the original content. nearly 700 new shows just last year alone. that cost a lot of money. netflix has been going into a deep, dark, deadpool last year. raising their prices with the thing they had to do to keep up. >> right, any time you raise prices people are not going to be happy. i have seen some of the backlash on social media for this. do you think that netflix survivors will abandon the service over this increase? >> no, if you remember in 2011 hastings raised the prices. at that point, it was a big deal. 2% of netflix subscribers canceled their account. that was nearly 600,000 subscribers. that was a bigger hit to our streaming. this is a drop in the bucket. i think most americans are not going to care. again, it is bringing value. charging an extra

you look at hulu, the price point is still 25%, the comparable stream on hulu, it is amazon. price point as there's nothing to suggest they are overpriced. the outlook for netflix is extremely strong. the average person is probably spending $.30 an hour, if you look at the average use of time, that is dramatically cheaper than going to a movie theater with the date and spending $17. you could stay at home and order a bottle of key auntie -- chianti. we think it will stick, there are risks, but we think it will stick. emily: we have talked many times about how netflix is spending billions and billions of dollars on content. we are seeing that hailed with awards for "roma," and "bird box" got so many viewers in a week. it was the most loved brand on facebook last year. netflix have said they are going to burn through, they burned through about $3 billion in cash last year. do you think the business model is sustainable? mark: i think so. an unknown future really prove it by looking at the historical financials. i would turn the question back and say, why wouldn't netflix be abl

hulu is 25% more expensive for a comparable plan and amazon is a stand-alone prime subscription service, netflix brought up prices up to match that. there's nobody cheaper out there. finally, the value proposition you can netflix and chill, watch bird box at home and save 20 bucks instead of going to the movies that kind of value proposition, very few things in this country are as good as that. we like the stock. 450 is the price target. >> matt, do you agree, do you think the price increase sticks for u.s. subscribers in. >> look, if you go back to 2016, last time we saw price action of this magnitude, we saw a modest blip in subscriber ads and short term but if you look at 2016, they got through the year with significant revenue growth, despite material up tick in pricing. i think we'll see a similar scenario in 2019 as mark was saying, it is consistent with the strategy, right? more and better content yields more subscribers, pricing power, and revenue. reinvest back into content and the flywheel continues to add to that, timing wise it makes sense. you're raising prices into a stren
