scott: where does kevin mccarthy go from here? he aspires to become speaker of the house if republicans are able to be successful in the 2020 election and democrats have a disastrous year. kevin mccarthy is expected to run for speaker of the house but the big question is whether conservatives will allow him to ascend to that role. there is a big question mark hanging over his head. can he seal the deal and become speaker and secure those 218 votes? a lot of people think this is as high as he will rise and then he could be passing the baton to somebody else. that is something i will be looking at. >> so much of this is behind closed doors. what will you be watching for? evan: we have seen so much of his career has been guided by where the republican party is going. he senses it ahead of time and tries to get himself there. in this moment, for him to excel, he will need to lead the party to a place and figure out and redefine what the party is so it can become ascendant again. whether he is up to the task is what we will be watching
