(robin) happening happening today...govern or gavin newsom is expected to stop the death penalty. he will sign an executive order halting capital punishment in the state. california has the largest death row population in the county. the executive order will withdraw the state's lethal injection protocol and close the execution chamber at san quentin state prison. prisoners who are currently on death row will not be released...and the order will not alter any current sentence. right now there are 737 people currently awaiting execution in california. once the order is signed, california will be the fourth state to freeze capital punishment.
