the oakland unified school district is planning layoffs in the wake of the contract agreement with oakland teachers. the board voted monday to cut 22 million dollars from the budget to fulfill the new contract agreement with teachers. the district is planning to lay off more than 100 employees --- but the exact number has not yet been released. school officials must provide notice this month to the employees being laid off. they will take effect at the end of this school year in june.
