i will stop because i know i've talked a lot. but i think a very interesting conversation i had with a colleague of mine at bloomberg who grew up in and had descended, if anyone is familiar with - - which is about total desperate poverty in the north of england during the 20s and 30s. he had grown up very near there. and his grandmother lived in these just like, gross slums. if you read this book, you're just horrified by the physical description of the conditions people are living in. his grandmother moved out in her 60s. when the government was renovating everything. he said it killed her. the outrage in his voice. she said she had all her friends and knew everyone but now she was in a house where she knew no one and decided to die. she got sick of life. if you think about that. these houses that are like 2-4 tiny rooms. squalid, crawling with bedbugs and vermin. they have toilets that are at the end of some little back alley. that you have to share with other families but if you think about a community in which coal mining and

i will not say going forward we will not have as many cases or more cases than filed last year. it is not in of itself a particular output measure i am looking to compare. pete: one of the, i want to ask about the size and scope of the bureau, so some of the republican criticisms was it was too large of a footprint in the revelatory space, obviously your predecessor asked for zero dollars for the budget at one point and i am curious about the level of funding you are thinking of and the staffing, do you think it is at the size it should be an how do you think about reshaping the bureau going forward? dir. kraninger: what we are doing now inside of the bureau is a robust resource allocation discussion and a staffing plan. i have charged every manager to think about the resources they dollars for the budget at one need to do the job i have laid out for them. and i want to have that conversation about with the right staffing level is. i actually am not, i have no goal, there is no goal to reduce the staff and there is not a goal to increase the staff to the levels that were targete

and then fire me and i will cry. [laughter] i love barbara. for ten years barbara walters was the most incredible mentor to me. she has done more for women in broadcasting than any other woman. she did more for me personally. when i needed surgery, barbara made the call. when fired from the view, barbara made the call to fox for me. and it is an honor to learn from her for ten years. so i am full of gratitude. >> martha: you had an opportunity to have dinner with queen elizabeth the second. how did that go about? >> elisabeth: those are dangerous tenors if you're not used to fancy things. i remember the invitation came in and it was fancy. i asked barbara walters, what do i do about this? darling, you must go. i feel like i'm in a disney movie or something. and i was also pregnant at the time. do i curtsy, do i bow, what do i do when i address the queen? so i finally get there and i thought it would be a big dinner. it was about 40 people. a state dinner with the queen. jeb bush to my side and i'm hungry and i'm gluten-free. i remember waiting

i will never -- i will always remember the first time i met her. i have a little project she can help out on. she parked me in a small meeting room with karine woods and john super to talk about the public boat launch project which had been struggling at the point for a number of years, so that was my first friendship with her. she pushed and pushed and pushed , and decided we would build it in phases over time and eventually four or five or six or seven years later, we finally built it. it was a fitting project. she was a strong advocate for open space, planning, water, recreation, and our work on pier 70 and other projects come to realize she is an advocate for smart land use and transportation planning. and since our colleagues here are from m.t.a., down 16th street is what you should remember. we miss her and appreciate her. thank you. >> thank you. is there any other public comment? >> dianne, also with planning and environment. that boat launch might have to be the david and karine boat launch, but i want to concur with all of the accolades o

there's no way i will make a better call than they will. david: it is said you have spent a very good amount of time recruiting good investment specials. is that a date part of your job, recruiting others to come to citadel? ken: i have interviewed ballpark 10,000 people in my career. so recruiting -- i will leave today and do two interviews today, two tomorrow. i am always looking for talent. david: if somebody is watching this and they say, i will be interviewed by ken griffin, what should they do in the interview to make you like them? [laughter] ken: what is interesting is make you like them is a cognitive bias in interviewing people. you want to avoid being caught in that trap. i am looking for two key drivers in a candidate. i'm looking for their passion. do they actually love what they do? do they love the problems they work on? there was a young woman who worked for us 16 years ago, a year or two out of ivy league school, i forget which one, and her boss says, she would leave. she is incredibly talented. she wants to go to medical s

i will say this also. after the selection, it is my intention -- after this election, it is my intention to bring congress together and to say we have got to fix some things. because part of our collective frustration with what has been going on over the last couple of years is this whole situation has us staring at our belly button. the world is passing us by. that areritical issues being neglected in our country and we are becoming weaker because of it. let's be clear about this. ain't nobody else going to come in here and fix our problems. if we don't do it, who will? when we are looking at globalization, at the fact that we need to compete on a much bigger plane, we better get our act together. and most of the intractable issues that we must address are not even bipartisan. i would suggest to you they are nonpartisan. but we have to have real leadership at the top, and that is why i am running for president. >> yes, and they always will. i have to process that, nonpartisan -- i will think about that. interestingly, i just saw february, march, year on year the federal revenues are coming in. when you adjust for a day short thearch and february, revenue is coming in nicely. i believe what will happen here gdp, you will see the deficit on a steady brought path lower-- broad unit if you look at the adjustments, let's take a non-partisancbo -- showtheir own numbers cut, theyt, post-tax raise the level of nominal gdp quite a lot if my memory serves me. about $7 trillion with some elbow room. in an average tax rate of 17 or 1.2 extraproduced 1.2 trillion dollars. the tax cut was estimated at 1.4 trillion. i think we have already paid for a good chunk of it. our numbers show the same thing in the budget. i think we are right on target. time -- i never argued in year one it would hay for its self. -- pay for its self. off to ae have gotten very good start. , which wetough budget are lowering the best we can, .ive are sent across the board if these spending caps go all willay back, then we
