nbc's molly hunter reports. and a warning, the video is disturbing. >> reporter: new horrifying video obtained by "san francisco examiner" shows a woman reaching for the subway door in san francisco. >> there is a special call location embarcadero. >> reporter: but the door closes on her, and her hand is stuck. as the car speeds up, she can't keep pace, and she's pulled under the train. >> it appears there were personnel on scene who were trying to wave down the operator. >> reporter: she was hospitalized with serious injuries. the city's transportation system is in the midst of a billion-dollar upgrade. the problem -- the sensors designed to trigger the train doors to reopen don't always work. back in december, another documented case of fingers caught in the door. in a statement to nbc news, the city's transportation spokesman says the doors on the new trains are safe and operate as designed. even before the latest incident, muni added a second safety sensor to 7 of the 68 trains, but not the entire fleet. >>

our nbc bay area sky ranger was overhead down below. you can see one of the suspects surrendering tonight. four people are in custody. this all played out at a local motel and prompted the lockdown of surrounding neighborhoods. nbc bay area's sergio quintana joins us in fremont with all the details. sergio? >> reporter: fremont police officers and s.w.a.t. team members surrounded this moltar lodge and they even evacuated the whole motel, all of its guests, just to be on the safe side. after about five hours two people inside one of the rooms did come out with their hands up. from sky ranger you can see two men coming oust rear patio of room 121 at the mission peak lodge. both had their hands over their heads and both were later taken away. the fremont police s.w.a.t. team brought this howard-long standoff to an end. they did it by attaching a long battering ram device to one of its armored personnel carriers. >> we used a ram to break out one of the sliding glass windows to force entry into the room. at that point the two subjects insid

nbc bay area's bob redell live at the scene with the very latest. bob? >> reporter: laura and marcus, this fire is not officially under control, though it looks like it is out. but it is contained to the american emperor warehouse here in oakland. this is a supply warehouse. right now the fire department is concerned that the facade on the other side of the building could collapse, which is why you don't see anyone at the front of the building. this is what the fire looked like about 90 minutes ago. flames engulfed the entire structure at 19th avenue at east 12th street. the plume of smoke was visible for miles. we shot when we came out of the caldecott tunnel over here. it was visible especially for drivers on 880 and riders on bart both of which run by the warehouse. you might recognize the warehouse for its i heart oakland sign something you see driving up and down 880. the fire start add round 8:30 this morning. firefighters believe it was started on a debris pile outside the back of the building and from there the flames traveled through an open win
