look, we all know that sarah sanders lies. the mueller report actually documents instances where she told the public one thing and then she had to admit to investigators that it was not based on any fact. but what i'm more concerned about is the authority that the president has granted to the attorney general in his memo last week. i've never seen anything like it working in the national security division at justice, working for the director of national intelligence. he allowed -- he gave the attorney general the authority -- he directed him to be able to bypass the dni, bypass the intelligence community agency heads and declassify any information he determined was in the scope of his investigation that the president has directed him to conduct. so it's really an extraordinary authority that he's given the a.g. that is beyond anything normally the way we would see the intelligence community handle classified information. >> on that point, the dni head, dan coats, made a statement which was very unusual, essentially saying, you

sarah sanders, she listed a lot of important topics they discussed. what are we to believe out of this? >> this is one of those situations where the white house came out to tell us about this call and said for more than an hour, they talked about a range of issues, including, venezuela and wanting from the president's perspective a peaceful transition there, we know russia has been involved in supporting the maduro government, that the united states wants to see ended, also talking about nuclear agreements and looking at a way to bring, a russia, china, and united states plan together. that's something that could be part of this. and i asked the question, did they discuss the mueller report and its findings that russia in fact did interfere? sarah sanders said, yes, both leaders already knew there was no collusion, so that was no surprise to them. she said that their discussion centered on the fact that it's over and they're moving on. she did not give us any new details about what the president may or may not have said to vladimir putin about russian

most public statements from the president's tweet and sarah sanders are much more measured. jay seccialo saying the attorney general decided no obstruction. much more measured, if you will, they understand today is not a good day for them. robert mueller saying what he said is quite damning to the president. to the pelosi question, we covered the white house during the last impeachment. she lived through that. there was a back lash against the republicans in the end. she knows how unpredictable these things are. she knows 2016 was all about trump. 2018 was about issues, health care, the economy and the under current was how the president conducts his business, the temperament and tweets and the democrats won big. she thinks that's a much better terrain for democrats to be on. to dana's point, the speaker worries, the president's only path to victory they believe is a repeat of 2016. they think on this day speaker pelosi thinks that's the risk of impeachment. >> we shouldn't act like democrats are sitting on their hands and waiting to flip the impeachment switch and not doing

those are the words of sarah sanders just moments ago. a couple other things that struck me as you consider the president's frequent attacks on the course of the investigation. how many times did we hear the president call it a hoax or a witch hunt where robert mueller said the matters they investigated were of paramount of importance. that appears to be a rebuttal from the building from behind me and the president of the united states. all those attacks that robert mueller and his team, mueller said those individuals in advance of his resignation from the office of special counsel, from the department of justice, he said they were of the quote highe highest integrity. the on the words we have heard from robert mueller combatting the attacks that came his way over the course of this time. the biggest take away was for all the the efforts this white house has made, the president through the megaphone of twitter, aides, public events where he said no obstruction and no collusion. we didn't hear either of those words from robert mueller toda

in addition, numerous witnesses including but not limited to jared kushner, sarah sanders, rudolph giuliani, michael flynn, steve bannon, and john kelly all stated they could not recall events. the president himself said more than 30 times that he could not recall or remember enough to be able to answer written questions from the special counsel. the special counsel also recounted that, quote, some associated with the trump campaign deleted relevant communications or communicated during the relevant period using applications that featured encryption or do not provide for long-term retention of data, end quote. based on these gaps, the mueller report concluded, and i quote again, the office cannot rule out the possibility that the unavailable information would have shed additional light on or cast a new light on events described in the report, end quote. and contrary to the conclusion that the special counsel's report did not find evidence of communication or coordination between the trump campaign and russia, the mueller report explicitly states and i quote, a statement that the investigati

i know you had a chance to talk with sarah sanders after she did a tv hit on fox. >> an evolving new political adversary with -- from the white house point of view, the mueller report behind them, they are having new targets in the political landscape. nadler is clearly one of those. they are undercutting him personally and professionally in his role as the judiciary chairman and at the front and center of this debate over access to the attorney general. here is sarah sanders taking on nadler quite personally about his ability to be chairman and his interesting how she takes a shot at his own self-confidence in this clip. >> what we are seeing from chairman nadler is that he is incapable of holding power. if he and his committee aren't capable of actually asking the attorney general questions themselves and need to staff that out, it seems like a pathetic moment for the chairman of that committee. >> that's pretty harsh language. people need their thsynonym boo handy. it's a continuation of a pattern of defiance and pushing back hard. as i point out, some new characters in this drama

sanders spoke with reporters. here is what she had to say. mueller's statement today, that the statements differ? press sec. sanders: you would have to ask the department of justice, i am not sure about that. the point he already made in the report. we agree with him. collusion, there was no conspiracy, we consider this case closed. he completed his investigation. it is time for everybody to move on. he is going back to his private life and we think everybody else should, too. reporter: the president and you said case closed, but robert crime wasid if no committed, he would have said so. he didn't say so. press sec. sanders: if he had determined there was a crime, he would have had a moral obligation to report it. that he had anse investigation, the whole purpose of the special counsel was to make a determination on whether or not there was collusion. he came to a very explicit conclusion on that front that there was no collusion and no conspiracy. the good it make a determination on whether or not there was obstr

. >> reporter: well, first a couple of things, sarah sanders the white house press secretary gave a rare gaggle in the white house driveway a short while ago and said over here at the white house, they believe that the president was exonerated. that is not exactly what we heard from the special counsel robert mueller when he said earlier today, if we had confidence that the president did not commit a crime, we would have said that. he also went on to say, as you were playing a few moments ago, they guided this justice department policy that the president could not be indicted for crimes committed and i asked sarah sanders that question earlier this afternoon. if donald trump were not the president, could he be charged with a crime? and here is what she had to say. >> it does beg the question, if donald trump were not the president, could he be charged with a crime, what do you say to that? >> i think it is real simple, what we have said and they looked at whether or not collusion or obstruction and all of those things have been determined to not have taken place. collusion, conspiracy, o

senator santorum, sarah sanders, you know, continuing to claim the president is exonerated. mueller made it very clear today, he's not. the president tweeted out, well, it's insufficient evidence and in this country it means not guilty. mueller didn't say there's insufficient evidence. >> well, i thought mueller was a little twisted when it came to that whole issue, because before he talked about the president not being, you know, proven, that he wasn't convinced the president was innocent, he said that the russians who were charged were presumed innocent. but then he goes on and says, well, we can't presume the president innocent, because we didn't find him innocent. and then he goes on and says, it wouldn't be fair to charge him, because you couldn't try him, yet, he basically lays out a charge. he says, we didn't find him innocent, and he lays out all of these things and sort of gives the impression, i agree, that maybe there's something here. so i just found him to be a little disingenuous in the way he phrased all of this. >> but he's talking about the russians being pr
