here's abc's eva pilgrim. >> reporter: it's that time of year. the heat is on and people come out of winter hibernation for some fun in the sun. before going outside, many of us will hit the store finding ourselves overwhelmed with sunscreen options. and this summer there's a new concern to factor in. the fda has actually recently called for us to really take a close look at these chemical sunscreens and see how they truly affect our health. to determine if you have a chemical sunscreen, look in the ingredients list for oxybenzone or octinoxate. filtering them. but the fda recently conducted a pilot study of chemical sunscreens and determined that without further testing, fda does not know what levels of absorption can be considered safe. >> we don't know how they affect our health. those studies haven't been done yet. >> reporter: the consumer health care products association, a sunscreen manufacturers trade group, releasing a statement saying, sunscreen manufacturers, fda, and dermatologists are aligned on the goal of protecting the public from
