i am a member of the san francisco tobacco free coalition and proudly san francisco born and bred. when i began my work providing tobacco use prevention education throughout the bay area, including here in the city more than four years ago, i never would have predicted that i'd find myself in the front line, standing in halls and classrooms where thousands of youth that i speak to have fallen casualty to the deceptive tactics of jool and other e-cigarettes manufacturers to gain new customers. this is much more than an epidemic. we are at war. at war with companies who defend profits over the health of our most vulnerable populations, who have yet to set foot in the trenches of our schools and homes and assess the real damage that they've caused. e-cigarettes continue to go unregulated. companies use tactics to target youth and minorities that otherwise are illegal for tobacco companies. millions more are getting hooked, and cities like san francisco are paying over 300 million annually towards the economic cost of addiction. all the while, more and more research reveals the harmful

laguna honda is a key part of san francisco's health network, which cares for one in eight san franciscans. primarily people who are uninsured, low income, or for -- from our immigrant communities. and includes not only laguna honda, but san francisco general , and smaller clinics across our city, and health services in our county jail. here at laguna honda, more than 1,000 patients each year receive care for complex conditions like h.i.v. and alzheimer's and dementia, and other mental illnesses and disorders, and we have, for patients who are suffering from strokes or brain injuries, or spinal injuries, or other trauma. these treatments require long-term and specialized care, as so many of you here know, and they commonly include medications as part of the treatment plan. however, it is a well-known fact that these medications are expensive, and can drive up the cost of healthcare for millions of people who need these drugs to survive. the san francisco health network is constantly working to find ways to save money on drug costs for uninsured patients. we work with federal programs like

i taught school in san francisco for 35 years. i started smoking when i was 25, two packs a day until i was 37. i stopped when i was pregnant. my mom died of lung cancer. i was diagnosed can breast -- with breast cancer eight years ago. even with the diagnosis, i couldn't stop smoking. i have used these products cutting down from not just using huge amounts of pods, but putting my own juice into my pens, and i intend to completely stop at one point. the long hall. until i started vaping, i couldn't switch away from cigarettes and combustion. i haven't touched one in almost six years. i have a daughter, i taught school, and the proposed policy ban is not a successful idea. bans work in our heads. they don't work in reality. they provoke children to find better ways of getting around them. forbidden fruit is always more exciting. why are we leaving alcohol on the shelf? in my mind, alcohol shouldn't be there. if you hide things from kids, they'll find ways to get it. parents should raise their kids to be educated, well educated, and

workers come to san francisco? why are they not working in their own cities? how long are they driving, and we did this through in-person interviews as well as surveys and plotted some of our data using the application mapline. the interviews were conducted with t.n.c. drivers while waiting for or actually on a ride with them. drivers tended to be more amenable to speaking while in a ride while after having being paid for a ride whereas the surveys that would have been conducted by the labor group. okay. so here's our first map. this is a little bit wider out, but besides externality that we see with los angeles, there are a few drivers who took part in this survey that lived outside of the bay area. we see sacramento, stockton, modesto, so you can get an idea that were this to be done in a wider scale, a similar result would come out. then, we go to -- closer into the bay area, and we see that a lot of the interviewees came out of san francisco. we spoke with one interviewee who came from antioch. because -- she lived there because it was cheaper, and she had

so the first piece says disability in san francisco and says 1 in 10 san franciscans reports a disability. and that's 94,000 people in san francisco. almost half of those people are under age 65. investing in this community is really important for the future of our city. so, again, this is something we used to communicate with the public about disability. the first chart says san francisco residents report many types of disability. and some people report multiple disabilities. so we're looking at really trying to figure out how many people report different types of disabilities. and the most often reported is mobility, defined as difficult walking or climbing stairs. that's about 50,000 people. the second is difficulty with independent living, which includes doing errands alone. that is a little less, 40,000 people. cognitive, difficulty concentrating, remembering or making decisions, is around 35,000 people. and sensory, which is hearing or seeing, is also around that same number. and then needing help with personal care is about 25,000. so if you can -- you can see because the total is
