nbc bay area's bob redell just spoke with students and the school superintendent. bob? >> reporter: scott and marcus, scott chan taught physics here at american high school in fremont for the past three years. we spoke to a young student. she described him, in her own words, as very nice today, the district sent in a special team of counselors, psychologists, and support staff who will be available over the next several days in the career center in case students or staff need help handling their grief over chan's death. scott chan, who was from los altos and his daughter, kendra, they were onboard the "conception" for what was supposed to be a three-day father/daughter excursion. she was a wildlife biologist from southern california. the two of them shared a love of exploring the ocean. according to chan's linkedin profile, he had also taught physics in san mateo. prior to that, he worked in silicon valley. but he left tech to teach, because he wanted to help young people. >> i think it's really great that he would like leave his great career to kind of give back to the
