they all wanted a safe san francisco. so the question arises why has there been no publicly known progress made on this issue since february 1, 2017? why can't representatives sit down at the table and work out the issues if in fact they all agree on a common goal, a safe san francisco. why can't san francisco continue to be a leader that others will look up to for guidance, or how to communicate and work through the tough issues? or, are we just afraid of the political fallout? as we stated, in our report, the san francisco civil grand jury is not recommending that the san francisco police department join or not join the jttf. what we are asking is that the mayor, the chief of police, the representatives from the f.b.i., the police commission, and the civil liberties sit down with each other and start having a meaningful dialogue that will move this issue forward. we were encouraged by the positive responses we received from the mayor's office, the chief of police, and the we depend on our public servants to do the right

san francisco fleet week comes to san francisco once a year. it is a wonderful celebration and it is built on the foundation of troops, community, and the fleet week center for humanitarian assistance. we have wonderful programs to the troops all week long, including friday evening at pier 30/32, in the shadow of the u.s.s. summerset is a free concert and festival that will take place friday from 5:00 to 9:00 in the evening. we invite all san franciscans to join us in celebrating the men and women that serve in our military. the community, there's so much that we do with the community. we work with the business districts. we work with the foundations that run non-profit programs. there were a lot of community activities, including of course the nation's greatest air show featuring the blue angels. you will see all of that. it's all on our website and your media packages is all of the events. here we see the results of the fleet week center for humanitarian assistance, bringing together agencies at all levels of government, both civilian, milita

my early life of san francisco, i was born and raised here and i am so proud to be from san francisco. i went to rooftop elementary school, who had an amazing arts program and i'm also committed to diversity. i got into rooftop because of i'm half filipino and half jewish and they needed more filipino students to come to the school so i was able to get into that program. you can imagine what 24th street was like in that time period and i was a having a blast, much to my parents' dismay. eventually it got me sent to an alternative correctional facility in new mexico. i was away for a year and a half in a drug detox program, when i was 17 years old. i came back and i started city college and started studying criminal justice because prior to getting sent away, i was a part of youth moments here . it was called third eye movement. we were committed to fighting against gang violence, the juvenile initiative, where we saw a lot of doingness come out our high schools and middle schools and new money infusion into building correction facilities. we saw money go towards ygc and now they're ge

we came here to san francisco and we conducted significant outreach to all the communities of san francisco. we had public listening sessions , we had a full on community engagement. under this phase, we are working to support the organization and helping us achieve its reform goals in terms of the recommendations that came out of the report. our work today is grounded back in the report that was delivered on october 12th, 2016. in that report, there were 94 findings and 272 recommendations while we continue to talk about numbers, what we have to recognize is that this is really about the goals. the identified goals for reform in san francisco, as well as the impact that we have on persons who are arrested, people who suffer use of force, officers who engage in force, and try to identify what are the strategic outcomes that we can, as an organization here in san francisco, and the city, achieve when we talk about a shift in focus and priority in both the board here spoke about this today, as did the chief, that in september 15th, 2017, the d.o.j. stopped giving technical assistance. this is

we work with the san francisco unified school district and san francisco state through the mesa program, mathematics, engineer and science achievement. they are disadvantaged residents. we got 30 interns on this project. goal was 50%. we achieved 57%. i spoke with the contractors. 10 of the hires are on the company working with projects outside of the hospital once it was completed. that is a good success. we want retention and people sustaining to work. the next slide is our entry level positions for construction and most of these are focused on apprentice ship programs. city build we offer the academy which is 18 weeks. people who graduate from the program we pay for the initiation fees to get them in the union and to work. early are the challenges not having enough ironworkers. we have presented that in the past. one of the toughest trades to convince people to work in, and with that there was still a good amount of ironworkers. during one of the events a graduate spoke and highlighted success in working on the project. the last four years, we have experienced a big construction boom

i'm on leave with the city of san francisco currently. i was hired by the city and county of san francisco in 1996. oh, to start, i applied for seat number 15, the workforce development seat. i was hired by the city and county of san francisco in 1997, as a laborer. i got really involved with my union to promote women in the trades. that is the trades are primarily male-dominated field. and we needed to have a voice at the table as well. in 2004, i became the co-chair of our public employee committee. in 2009, then mayor gavin newsom assigned me to work at the local, to develop public/private partnerships. in 2010 we launched our horty cultural program. followed by 2014 we developed the may's pre-apprenticeship program. from there we developed in 2015, i assisted in developing the arborist apprenticeship program, another one of the first state-certified in the country. then in 2017, the city and county assigned me again to the california statewide cannabis apprenticeship committee. there i assisted in developing apprenticeship standards f

we have a local headquarters here in san francisco. we sell hundreds of thousands of bars around the country, particularly california. we are also retailing in san francisco, gnc and other establishments. we are not directly impacted by this ordinance. we recognize this could be a harbinger of things to come down the road. we happened to support the proposed ordinance, because we have an issue ourselves with trying to be clean and green. our bars come in a nonrecyclable , plastic wrapper. we could make them from recyclables, but it puts us at a competitive disadvantage against our competitors. unfortunately, we are not doing it. we are hoping at some point there will be legislation statewide or in congress or somewhere that requires recyclable packaging. that will level out the playing field. the difference though in this ordinance on what we are facing is unlike protein bars, this take-out charge, there is no net financial impact to business. for example, someone buys a 4-dollar latte. now they have to pay $4.25 in theory, but the own
