we'll have more on abc 7 news at 6:00. just a terrible christmas tragedy. >>> in the north bay, sky 7 flew over muir woods today, the popular tourist attraction turned deadly on christmas eve. one of those famous redwoods fell on a man killing him. it happened on the hillside trail. kate larson has the story. >> on christmas eve around 4:30 in the afternoon while the park was open to visitors a group of people were hiking on a trail in muir woods. >> without warning, a tree fell on hillside trail where the three were walking. a man was pinned down by the tree and killed. a woman was hurt by falling debris and taken to a hospital. and a third man escaped uninjured. >> the marin county said they found the man unconscious and lifeless on the ground. the 28-year-old lived in minnesota. in a statement, the golden gate national recreation area said in part the hillside trail and part of the main trail remain closed until the trunk and branches are removed after the holiday weekend. the tree fell of natural, unknown causes follow

abc news will not show you the full clip. you sec two children appearing to play next to an escalator, then grab the hand rail. they are taken and up disappear out of frame. moments later the children would fall. in another angle obtained by abc affiliate wsoc in charlotte, people rush to help the child. 3-year-old jaden cowart was taken to the hospital where he later died. the boys' mother said they had just landed from florida and were waiting for their baggage, but police say other video shows she let the children play on and around the escalator for an hour and that she wasn't seen in that video. police charged her with misdemeanor child abuse. in october that mother told wsoc that she was devastated and grieving. her lawyer says she's not guilty of child abuse and that this kind of accident could have happened to anyone. gio benitez, abc news, new york. >> our thanks to gio there. >>> the coast guard was a dog's best friend in florida. >> a distress call about a dog in the waters off ft. myers came in wednesday evening.

abc 7 news community journalist dustin dorsey is live in san jose. how much money are we talking about here? >> reporter: it may be the holiday season but is the time of year for credit card fraudsters. dozens are looking for answers after being hit with hundreds of dollars in unauthorized charges. for some people in south san jose last-minute holiday shopping is on hold because their credit cards were compromised due to hundreds in fake charges. the last charges before the fake charges popped up were made at two unsuspecting locations. >> we shop a lot at the knob hill here and also there's a starbucks there. i saw kind of a common thread between people shopping at those locations. >> reporter: in fact there were double digit complaints from residents who shopped at this nob hill foods and then received calls of fraudulent charges, some in the $400 range made at safeways. >> frustrating because now we'll be delayed about a week and a half until i can get another card to use because my card has been deactivated and i think that happens for most peopl
