paul minnesota mayor. he came right after jake on frye , the minneapolis mayor and of course the governor, tim walz all promising that the demonstrations that have morphed into something a lot more than the killing of an african american is something that's going to stop. now what we don't know is the degree to which they are going to enforce that. we've separately gotten word that the army was told to ready military police units for possible deployment to minneapolis. the new york times is reporting that that became necessary and was a request from the governor' office after protests escalated into looting and much more violence than anyone had counted on. the governor is responding tonight with what he thinks will be peaceful demonstrations to drown out the noise of those who are doing anything but. an interesting development we heard from the mayor right now of st. paul, minnesota is that all the arrests that were made last night were those who were coming from out of the state. they weren't in-state. t

you know, a lot of americans, there is, you know, minnesota has the minnesota nice image. minnesota has an image -- you're an african-american man that got collected statewide as the attorney general and the states's legal enforcement officer. >> right. >> some look at this and are surprised. tell us the story in minneapolis why this shouldn't surprise people in your mind. >> well, minnesota is kind of a tale of two cities. it really is a beautiful, wonderful place. i love it here. i've raised all four of my kids here. there are so many great things about it and so many great people. yet, we have very stark disparities when it comes to african-americans. health disparities in health care and health disparities in housing and health disparities when it comes to employment and disparities all around. i mean, i'll give you a quick example about 70 some percent of minnesotans own their own homes but only 27% of african-americans do. african-americans are a fragile economic position in this state and we need massive investment. what i say to people is, look. if we can have some

now we see the looting and destruction in minnesota and atlanta. now we see buildings burnt down and glass break and people stealing things. i think we have to look beyond the looters and the criminals. we have to rise above that and realize we need to carry out george floyd's legacy by making positive change. rick: how sad is it that the mess and is being lost with the violence being perpetrated on businesses and police across america. >> that's the point. it can't be lost. this is a test for all of us. we are focused on the fires, the broken glass. we have to refocus. i realize we have to rebuild the small businesses, but we can't lose the focus. george floyd and other americans have not died in vain. senator lindsey graham is holding a hearing next week on the use of force. but might i suggest the handling of these cases for over a decade, we need to examine training on the job, what mechanisms are used, and sensitivity training. and you have got to look at leadership from top to bottom. all of america is with you and all of america is examining
