this protest started at oakland tech and was supposed to end up at the oakland police department but now we have speakers on the back of a flatbed truck speaking right in front of city hall. bear with me as i turn the camera around for just a minute . i show you the scene that we have here. we are still right here near broadway and franco plaza. you can see all of the people that are gathered here. the speaker is over on top of a flatbed truck. this has been a very peaceful protest all afternoon. thousands of people out here in oakland, they say they are demanding justice for george and everyone el before him. what was really interesting is one of the speakers actually said if you are here for anything other than justice you need to leave. everyone is stressing the importance of keeping this peaceful. the area saw quite a bit of violence and looting a couple of nights ago. the graffiti and broken glass very evident among the protesters here today. but again, very, very peaceful scene here in oakland today. the police presence has been minimal. it will be interesting to see what happe

oakland says chp officers were in the east oakland area on saturday night investigating a shooting that happened on 580. that is when the officers saw a dodge challenger driving recklessly and ran the license plate. the police say the plate did not match the vehicle. chp officers pulled over the vehicle on cherry street near elm hurst middle school where there is now a growing memorial. according to a preliminary investigation, o.p.d. says when chp officers exited their vehicles, the driver of the dodge began ramming their cars. three officers then opened fire killing the driver identified as 23-year-old eric salgado. his girlfriend in the passenger seat was also shot, and she is recovering and in stable condition. oakland police say the dodge was reported stolen on june 3 from a san leandro dealership. it is one of the 74 vehicles stolen that night during a looting incident. salgado's family and ose office held responsible. >> we want the names of the police officers, their personnel files, and we want them sent on a one-way ticket to prison right now. >> oakland police say no o.p.d. p
