santa clara county approaching 6,000 cases. alameda county, more than 7,700 infections. closer look at. so numbers now, this graph shows the number of new cases added each day this week. in alameda county, continues to be the hot spot. last saturday, july 4th, not bad. take a look at last sunday, nearly 300 cases that day. that's the most new cases reported in a single day since the pandemic began. the south bay also adding a record breaking number of cases the this week. last saturday santa clara county adding 228 cases. numbers dipped down slightly as the week went on. as you can see they're trending upwards again. maren county adding 300 new cases. only 250,000 people live in that county. the peak was on wednesday as you can see, 75 new infections that day. it's important to note these numbers do not include infections amongst inmates at san quentin. these are separate from the prison. statewide cases climbing on tuesday. the state added record number of cases in one day, nearly 12,000 cases. as infections across the country keep climbing, states are trying to figure

alameda county supervisors meeting right now at this hour to discuss their options. they actually met early this morning at around 9:30 and went into a closed session. just the last half hour, they begin their open session and we are waiting for them to address plans to petition the state for permission to allow some businesses to open for patio service. as of now, alameda county does not have a variance and over the weekend, after dining drew to a close. just yesterday, despite a crackdown for the state, the county learned it will be able to apply for that variance. the board meeting is going on now to discuss how to proceed with that plan. until less than, it appeared the state was pausing the process of applying for variances or special permission to reopen some areas of the state. the county says it wants cities to follow the guidelines, because future funding for covid-19 is tied with compliance to those orders. alameda county is the only county that did not apply for a variance from the state and may, without it, outdoor dining, not allowed in places like fairy
