i'm chuck todd. the state of florida has reported more than 10,000 new cases of coronavirus today. more importantly, that brings the state's total to over 300,000. as a country, it would put florida i think 6th or 7th on the list globally. the university of washington's model is now projecting that more than 224,000 americans will die as a result of the virus by november 1st. that technically by the way is two days before election day in this country. that rises to 240,000 if we ease restrictions at all between now and the fall. this as the white house is now openly attacking its own experts. in an op-ed for usa today, the president's trade adviser, peter navarro attempts to discredit the nation's top infectious disease expert writing dr. anthony fauci has a good bedside manner with the public but has been wrong about anything i have interacted with him on. and dr. fauci is now having to publicly defend his credibility. >> you can trust respected medical authorities. you know, i believe i'm one of th

nbc's chuck todd says president trump faces a quote, katrina moment over the covid-19 response. joe biden is attacking trump on the covid-19 response. but reports are surfacing at places like "politico," that the obama administration botched the response of 2009 swine flu epidemic. they had vaccine shortfalls. they had cutbacks of funding. they stopped testing right back in the middle of that pandemic. you know, ron klain, a biden advisor saying we dodged a bullet here. we got lucky. this could have been a mass casualty event. it was one of pure luck it was not one of the main mass casualty events in u.s. history. it was nothing to do with us. it was basically luck. the criticism, joe biden trying to attack president trump on covid-19, swine flu response he helped oversee, not state-of-the-art, not picture-perfect, your take. >> president trump has do it all, do it now mentality. he a attacked it right from the beginning, shutting down travel from china. we know the record is unmatched. he has been faced with a catastrophe and the american people have stood strong and stood with

chuck todd is nbc's political director and moderator of "meet the press. chuck, good morning. good to see you. let's start right there with roger stone and the president commuting stone's sentence he was set to head off to prison on seven felonies. the president making these moves, we've seen him play with the judiciary system on other cases as well, looking at the michael flynn case, people close to him people he believed had been loyal to him. the attorney general, bill barr, as kelly o'donnell mentioned, has let it be known he did not support this move by the president. was this unilateral from president trump? and, if so, what is his goal here does he believe this helps him politically somehow? >> it clearly -- well, at least there are a lot of people that are making it clear to those of us that cover washington that this was the president's decision on his own. it is putting the president on an island. you've seen the attorney general say -- sort of seek distance from this decision you've seen the white house counsel seek distance from this decision you've heard white hou
