a major setback for reopening businesses in the south bay. the state is rejecting the request to move into the next phase. "today in the bay's" bob redell joins us live this morning. can the county appeal? >> reporter: the state's decision to not allow the reopening of businesses like nail and hair salons and gyms so that decision makes no sense. it will be reaching out to the state for more guidance on what it needs to do to move on for the next phase of reopening. an owner of a nail salon calls it a death sentence for her business. they put in a request to the state to reopen the businesses and allow larger social gatherings. the idea was to be effective july 13th but the state has rejected that plan. also in the south bay, confusion over whether restaurants can resume outdoor dining. you can see from over the weekend agents with alcoholic beverage control entered ladera grill in morgan hill and other restaurants in the city and gilroy to let them know they were in violation of the state's guidance on outdoor dining. the restaurants were al

of the south bay. this is a live look at that brush fire that exploded overnight near gilroy prompting evacuations. cal fire tells us it was a structure fire yesterday afternoon that sparked the blaze. so far 1,500 acres burned, it is only 15% contained. two homes are already destroyed. a mandatory evacuation order in place for 25 homes and some evacuees tell us they were hesitant to leave at first. >> by the time i got up there it might be okay. it happened very quickly and was spreading very fast. >> the park fire burned more than 300 acres. it is now 70% contained. we don't yet know what started that fire. >>> busy this holiday weekend would be an understatement. on saturday 65 fires. all blamed on this. bay area skies in san francisco. firefighters tell us in just 12 hours there were 108 fires all set by those illegal fireworks. >>> and baseball fans may want to keep their ears close to the ground today or maybe an extra close eye on the internet because major league baseball could very well be rel

we spoke to one gym owner in the south bay. she is taking extreme measures to keep her gym clean disinfected. however, we spoke with another gym owner who is concerned about whether his business can enough money and stay in business. . not go out of business. given all the restrictions. when gyms open, you can't use the cardio machines. everyone must wear a facial coe exer limited. that means fewer customers. many areas will be closed including the indoor pools, locker rooms and saunas. free weights and yoga classes are allowed. the owner of the camp transformation center is worried about the mandates. believes they're too severe. he plans to reopen on july 20th with maybe half the number of members inside. public outdoor pools can reopen today here in santa clara county. they must reserve a time slot. there is limited capacity. you must stay six feet away from others. wears a mask except for when you're swimming and bring your own towel. hair and nail salons and tattoo parlors can reopen today here in the south bay in the sant

let's check out our south bay temperatures. if you have air conditioning, it's going to be a good day for you. if you don't have air conditioning, it's going to be a tough time sleeping tonight. as we look at our temperatures that are going to reach into the low 90s for the south county, we're seeing some more mid 90s for the inland east bay with pittsburg reaching 96 degrees and hayward we'll see those temperatures there in the low 80s starting to warm up along the coastline, as well. with some low 60s in half moon bay and then you see redwood city right on the other side of the santa cruz mountains in the low 0s and then we head to san francisco and mostly 60s, but a few spots trending into the low 70s today and for the north bay, we're ranging anywhere from 63 in point reyes to 94 in clear lake. we're still going to have a wide range in temperatures for today. as we look at our weather pattern, some heat from the desert southwest is starting to surge into the bay area so that heat really ramping up for southern california, b

now we are off to a breezy start for some most notably in the north bay, the good news for south bay area's which we're looking at to wildfires is that winds, nice and calm this morning says and not necessarily going to stay true all day long though, as we do look at a steady wind from the west pushing on into the bay area today part of the reason we're going to be cooler but along with that cooler weather does come the steady breeze which is i mentioned is flood definitely present up in the north bay at this time center fell winds at 70 miles per hour for your gust gust only increasing into the afternoon ahead of us and by the finish of the day areas like the coast and the north bay will be seeing gusts regularly as high as 20 to 30 miles per hour. the good news about today's forecast slower comfortable 60's for your highs and san francisco as well as elsewhere along the coastline. well 70's can be expected for most areas right along side, the bayshore foster city at 73 palo alto at 74 while mountain view and i 77 south bay temperatures well down from yesterday's no 90's hardly even

afternoon just a little bit above average for the south bay. i think overall we're doing really good here. 85 in san jose. right over to the east bay, we have a couple of temperatures right near 90. in fact, 90 in antioch, 89 pittsburg. 86 in walnut creek. 74 oakland. the peninsula, 81 in palo alto. then we're dropping it off as usual in san francisco. 59 for the marina. across the north bay we are looking at some comfortable weather in sonoma at 78 degrees. my extended forecast in san francisco keeps it dry with 60s the next seven days. a little bit of fog and some afternoon sun. for the inland valleys, watch out as the heat does start to return by friday, saturday, and sunday. with that heat as i've been mentioning, raj, the good news is we don't have any major wind event the next seven days, so that will continue to still help our fire danger just a little bit at this point. so some good news there. >> that is some very good news. thanks, jeff. >>> up next, can you get it a second time? a troubling discovery about coronavirus antibodies and

in the south bay. the highest number of cases is in sunnyvale with 13 so far. and that's where we find kpix 5's kiet do. kiet? >> reporter: good morning, so morning and we saw this one costco employee getting ready to pressure wash the front of the store. all the picnic areas and front of the hot dog stand and the sidewalk. you see him spraying the wall and the walkway there as well. so looks like they are continuing their clean-up efforts. yesterday, the county said that they had done a thorough inspection and costco handled the whole situation well and reported the cases and they also maintained all the safety protocols inside the store. in fact store here in sunnyvale was quite busy here yesterday. the location here on lawrence station road reported the infections happened sometime between july 23rd and july 26th. after inspecting the store the county made a few quote minimal recommendations inside the employee areas and health officials did not shut the stores down because preliminary investigation

then down here towards the south bay, some fog towards gilroy. sunshine returns for the afternoon, and that's going to really make it a beautiful day. you'll see as we start off tomorrow morning, temperatures in the 50s for the south bay, peninsula, and the tri-valley. have you down to 58 in the east bay. the north bay at 56. what about for the afternoon? i think the south bay probably has some of the best weather with 82 in san jose. over to the east bay you'll find the most enjoyable weather in hayward at 77. it does get hot over to livermore, 90. the peninsula coming in with a mix of 70s and a few low 80s near palo alto. san francisco, i have 50s and 60s with that ocean breeze out of the west at 18 miles per hour. down to 59 in the marina. then off towards napa, sonoma, santa rosa, more 70s coming back in, even some 80s with 79 in santa rosa, 86 in napa. my extended forecast in san francisco has that morning fog continuing over the next several days. so no break or change in that with 60s for those daytime highs. right here for the inland vall

look at the 90s down in the south bay. and the rest of the south bay in the mid to upper 80s. the breezes will keep the heat at bay, but still 77 to 85 on the peninsula. and mid to upper 60s along the coast this afternoon. if we didn't have the breezes, imagine how much warmer it would be in downtown, south san francisco, already reaching low to mid-70s there. we have 78 in sausalito. a few 80s around san rafael and novato. everybody else in the low to mid-90s in the north bay valleys. east bay shore, breezes keep us around 80 to 84 degrees. and that is warmer than average. imagine also if we didn't have the breezes there. and look at the low to upper 90s in the east bay valleys. good news, we're back in the 50s just about everywhere except for northern contra costa county and the hills. 7 day forecast, just a bit of a pull back tonight as the marine layer gets a little more aggressive tomorrow. we'll hold steady saturday, but then look at that, sunday triple digits inland and even next week when it is pulling back a little bit, the heat is still above average away from the co

but if you're in the south bay you're enjoying sunshine, great grilling weather. if you're going to be out in the backyard grilling some hot dogs, getting ready for those games, we are going to see our temperatures in the low 80s. and then dinner outside at 6:00 as we'll be in the upper 70s. so very nice. as we go through all of our micro climates and what to expect for today as we look at concord, we're at 86 degrees at 2:00 in the afternoon. but notice the low to mid-60s we'll have along the coast line and that fog still stretching into the coast. in. into the evening more fog we'll stay in the low 70s for spots like palo alto and some low 80s in san jose by 5:00. and if you want to go walking later in the evening closer to sunset, it's mostly going to be in the 60s and 70s for much of the bay area. so it's going to feel very nice. and then that fog gets thicker and stretches across the bay area. so as we go through this forecast, not looking at many changes here. some low 90s today. and we'll see that weather continuing into the end of the weekend. but there mi

the company reported a total of 31 cases at four different stores in the south bay. the highest number of cases in sunnyvale with 13 so far. and that's where we find kpix 5's kiet do. >> reporter: good morning, to we got here at 4:30 this morning and the employee who had been pressure washing the front of the store just finished up here. he was doing it for about an hour and a half. washing down all the picnic bl and rain and wa it's looking prettyean re in ont thlocation here on lawrence station road. so the county has done a thorough inspection they say. they say that costco handled it all pretty well. they reported the cases and they have maintained all the safety protocols inned the store. in fact the store here in sunnyvale was quite busy when we were here yesterday. the location here on lawrence station road reported the infections happened sometime between july 23rd and july 26th. now after inspecting the store, the county made a few quote minimal recommendations inside the employee areas. health officials did not shut the stores down because their investigati

but in the south bay, 90 here. and 91 in east san jose. down here in gilroy, with the cruz fire, excellent news. now 60% contained and the way the wind is blowing, it will push any kind of remnant smoke away from gilroy. so that is also better there for the firefighters. hottest weather in antioch and concord, mid 90s there. closer to the way, 78 here in oakland. right up against the coastline with that ocean breeze, a chilly 62 in half moon bay. redwood city, be the mission at. and 64 in the outer sunset. the north bay, 94 in clearlake and 93 in napa. my extended forecast in san francisco, pretty stable. 60s next seven days with a little fog at times in the morning, and lots of sun. 94 tomorrow, we hold with these low and mid 90s through the weekend. but here we go. instead of 100s next wednesday, the trend does dip. 89 degrees. not something we often see in july, so i think this pattern is doing us good lately. not too hot, not too cool. if you're happy with the heat situation, we're all good, because i know you like it hot. >> i like it
