and areas in the north bay right now you can see those marked with a little purple icon. well in the north bay people in napa county already how to deal with the high temperatures of course the bad air quality now there's a concern a potential power shut-offs calistoga still at risk of losing electricity along with thousands of others in napa county but the city has a backup as one of the first cities to experience a public safety power shutoff pg e recently installed this plan interconnection hub and that's to help get 2 thirds of the city back up and running just in case of a shut off. >>she stores pharmacies etc police fire. everything that we need to take care of everyone else in those folks who do live in the un powered area or an energized area. well we will have some cooling centers for them to move over to. >>well if the interconnection help works as planned it should be able to bring back power within just a few hours pg e has also set up community resource centers for those impacted. well there's also a red flag warning in effect for the north bay mountains and

burning in the north bay. at this hour the fire has burned more than 46,000 acres and it is essentially out of control. just 2% contained. at least 80 homes in napa and sonoma county are lost, not to mention the damaged property to wineries and hotels. more than 20,000 structures remain threatened. here is the latest for county evacuation orders. to the county line between diamond mountain road and petrified forest road. also the town of angwin and the area of poke valley. how far the fire has expanded in napa and sonoma county since it started on sunday. >>> in santa rosa eviction orders are already lifted for some homeowners in the fire zone. returning yesterday was gut wrenching. many had no idea if their homes had been saved or not. we spoke to one relieved neighbor in the skyhawk neighborhood. >> five or six homes burnt on the corner. i was 300 feet from my house burning. >> some people now living in skyhawk are all too familiar with this. some of them moved after losing their homes in the firestorm that

it is a big concern if you live in the north bay. this is a tough time of year for you with those critical fire weather conditions. as we go through today and tomorrow, we are watching those winds, the strong winds especially in the higher elevations, above 1000 feet , and even higher wind gusts today and tomorrow. so for today, those highs are not quite as hot as what we had yesterday but still, we are dealing with toasty temperatures, mid 90s for santa clara and san jose, triple digit heat in morgan hill and a lot of triple digits this afternoon. 103 in concord, once or two in the tri-valley, and same for concord and there is a cooling center open at the concord senior center. you have some really for people. around the bay, mid 80s in san francisco is in oakland and for the north bay, mid to upper 90s. here's the extended forecast of what you can expect as we're looking at temperatures cooling down as the onshore flow begins to kick in through the week into early next week. back to you. >>> the time is 6:51. a flareup leads to new

fires causing extensive damage overnight in the north bay. parts of eastern sonoma and western napa counties are affected. these fires are burning out of control. no hard numbers yet on the acres burned. there's a lot being consumed right now. so far, though, we do know there are no reports of deaths. many homes are destroyed, however. some wineries are reporting damage or completely destroyed structures. thousands of people are evacuated from these areas. >>> and as many people tried to get out overnight, roads became backed up. this was the scene on highway 12 at los alamos shortly before midnight. at least 5,000 santa rosa residents are trying to leave the area. this is the shady fire as it was approaching. >> temporary evacuation sites are being set up at the veterans hall in petaluma for animals affected by the shady fire. large be taken to the santa rosa fairgrounds. >>> coming up for you on "today in the bay," our live team coverage, the breaking news continues for you from the north bay. >>> that's right. that's where those fast movin

for the north bay through 11:00 tomorrow night. look at the ridge top with winds of 45 to 60 miles per hour. may not see much in the valley. you can see this snap showing you the areas in purple there with stronger gusts across the north bay hills. that's the wind machine. high pressure to the north, low pressure bringing snow to the rockies. the highs start to weaken. thursday on friday, there comes the release. cooling but in the mean time, we are looking at 24 to 36 hours. dry and gusty conditions in the hills and hot temperatures in land. you have this record heat leading up and temperatures do drop back into the 80s and 90s by the weekend. some relief. things are expecting to get quite challenging especially with the august lightning and lake county and those are the areas of strong winds ochlt. >> those are the ones we'll have to keep an eye on. >>> coming up, the creek fire dozens of people were evacuated. it is burning closer yosemite, what the park is doing to protect its building. jean, did you know geico is now offering

the fire zones in the north bay we continue following that. over to scott right now. >>> good morning, mike. we'll get back to our fire coverage in just a second. a business update. the house unveiled its latest version of its coronavirus stimulus bill. it had one earlier this year passing a massive stimulus bill back in may which the senate never approved. the democratic-led house now back with a smaller version of the same bill which extends the paycheck protection program and returns that popular $600 a week supplemental unemployment payment as well as a stem lar check to americans. speaker pelosi scheduled to meet with treasury secretary steven mnuchin today. mnuchin has been representing the senate and the white house in negotiations. >>> wall street kept its streak alive with stocks moving higher on monday. today is the second to last day of the financial quarter. futures calling for a lower opening but experts say if there's a clear winner in tonight's debate we could see quite a rally tomorrow. and pilots at united have reached a deal

so certainly watching out for very poor air quality in the north bay. this is probably the best news of all check out the golden gate bridge all that fog has moved back on shore. so that's a sign that the region is finally breaking down, but it is going to be slow to weaken this a very dominant ridge of high pressure so i think we're looking at some hot temperatures again least inland for tomorrow. winds of course been the big concern. boy just horrible wind conditions, those offshore winds 30 some 50 mile an hour gusts in the north bay, those are now gone we're seeing more of a sea breeze kicking in to 10 miles per hour in a san francisco you watch overnight tonight. those winds calm down even further calm in the san francisco, light winds in the north bay and even the influx of some of that moisture into the santa rosa area bring the humidity way up there will be a sea breeze kicking in by tomorrow afternoon but again it doesn't look like those strong northerly winds are going to make return anytime too soon just more of a breeze still that being said

and helping the situation up in the north bay. calmer conditions this morning and any sort of light breezes that you are seeing is just really pushing in some cooler moister air which is good news. so calmer winds cooler temperatures all in all improvements for the vicinity of the glass fire. the downside to that is with little winds that smoke is just going to settle with us and it's going to stay with us for some time specially in the north bay today but eventually diffusing to the rest of the bay area. there will be more and more of an impact further and further south right now san jose you're holding on to moderate air quality some coastal spots actually not too bad at all while the worst of it is centered right around sonoma napa and solano counties even stretching down into contra costa counties so not the day to be doing a whole lot of outdoor activities and plan on those indoor workouts for the rest of the week too. 60's and 70's for your coastal spots, including san francisco today mission in financial districts, falling

bay increasing and it said offshore flow pattern winds out of the north northeast right now 20 miles per hour sustained in the valleys but in the highest peaks could see wind gusts tonight through monday morning upwards of 45 miles per hour or less let's take a look at relative humidity out there right now for our driest inland valleys in the north bay already down to 28% tell range for yacht bill and sonoma for those of you in fairfield not that much better 26% relative humidity down to 34% for those of you in livermore and orinda but as i fast forward to monday morning because we're still tracking gusty. wind speeds remember the glass fire sparked 4 o'clock saturday or sunday morning and similar conditions are expected for your monday morning as well. >>but only drier conditions compared to this morning for monday morning because we did truck a warmer air mass today that really did dry out the vegetation so we could see relative humidity as we wake up by monday morning in the mid morning hours anywhere in the teens for those of you in the north bay and east bay down into the single

possibly in the single digits in the north bay. that is the reason why we have the red flag warning all the way through 11:00 on monday. so here's the big jump in temperatures tomorrow. low to mid-90s around san jose. upper 90s to near 100 degrees inland. in concord, a lot of that depends on the wind. as the winds lighten up later in the day that's when you're going to see these temperatures skyrocket. we do think san francisco has a chance of 90s tomorrow. in fact, the forecast for tomorrow has trended even hotter for some places there around san francisco and the north bay, and you're seeing it there. now, get ready for monday's high temperatures. 97 degrees, san francisco. mid-90s in oakland. so everyone back into the big-time heat for monday. hottest temperatures above 100 degrees. this is why it's going to be tough to cool down. notice the ridge of high pressure. while it weakens slightly and moves just a bit through wednesday and thursday, there's really no open door for a strong sea breeze. we'll get some fog on the coast, b

we're talking north, east bay hills, valleys of north and east bay hills, and a heat advisory that's been expanded from san francisco to the entire bay area through 7:00 on monday. air quality is already deteriorating in the east bay, in the south bay. and you saw in the north bay. the golden gate, looking at blue sky right there. it is 71. oakland, mountain view, gilroy 64 at the coast. hot temperatures today, we're talking 20 degrees above average. and we're going to see those dry winds continue throughout the day today. numbers will be well into the 90s. this is your 4:00 temperature. we could hit 100 by about 3:00, mid-80s around the bay. the good news is, liz, we'll get a sea breeze tomorrow, but not in time to help us with this excessive heat. >> all right, lisa, thank you. >>> with fire dangers threatening all day today, pg&e was warning of power safety shutoffs. they were forced to because of the glass fire this morning. power is out for a little more than 2,000 customers right now. estimated restoration is around 9:45 this morning. pg&e has been warning of other public safet

once you head north into the north bay that a haze is mixed in with the fog that we're seeing an air quality definitely an issue. this conditions right around the glass fire up in the north bay we're still seeing that fire spreading despite the fact that humidity isn't quite as low temperatures have been a touch cooler and winds have been calmer now we do have 5 high fire danger into the latter part of the week and i'll get to that in a minute. but smoke is the big issue right now for a lot of surrounding areas up in the north bay where eastern sonoma and northern napa counties are in the worst category for smoke as well as some of our eastern bay area. inland areas. temperatures today will be pretty warm this afternoon believe it or not after such a foggy morning winds will remain overall pretty calm though they do pick up tomorrow afternoon. that's why yellow is being seen in addition to these heat advisories up in the north bay. those yellow spots, those fire weather watches that take effect tomorrow last through friday with winds picking back up for the north bay so fire danger i

and north bay remain through the evening tonight. eventually into tomorrow too with those winds hot temperatures and very low relative humidity out bill one of those spots that's bone dry right now. we do have extreme fire danger today, that's red flag warnings for upper elevations across the bay area couple of spots. we're really going to be focusing on today into tomorrow is going to be our east bay hills where temperatures will remain at or above 100 degrees. dry conditions and then winds gusting as high as 30 to 45 miles per hour. all of solano county prone to high fire danger 25 to 40 miles per hour wind gusts. the marine sonoma and napa counties as upper elevations also lit up in red indicating that high fire danger that we could be seeing any sort of spark could result in growth of the fire so please be very mindful of anything you're doing stepping outside today. right now we're in the 50's and 60's which is really the highlight of this morning's forecast compared to yesterday which remember was warm didn't offer much relief
