henry aaron is the all—time home run leader now... this blast back in 1974 saw him break babe ruth's record. hammering hank blasted his way into the history books. aaron had received thousands of letters, many of them racist, and many of which contained death threats against him and his family. of that moment he said, "it was supposed be "the greatest triumph of my life, but i was never "allowed to enjoy it. "i couldn't wait for it to be over. "the only reason some people didn't want me to succeed "is because i am a black man." aaron's opportunity in the major leagues came in the 1950s when his career overlapped with greats like mickey mantle and willie mays. he was selected to the all—star team 25 times and he helped the braves win the 1957 world series when he was crowned the most valuable player. away from the baseball diamond, he spoke out about equality and he was one of the most influential figures in the black community in the south. in 2001, he along with muhammad ali was awarded the presidential citizens medal. ali said tha
