byrd park is named for him as a founder of the town of richmond. but this is something that i think is important to note because when the columbus statue was toppled this summer and put in the water in byrd park, a lot of the focus was on columbus and what columbus tells us about colonial american history. no one really talked about is named. i think it's really important to bear in mind how we monumentalize the past, how we memorialize colonial america is just as powerfully found in the names of parks and streets as it is in things like a monument, like a statue. and in some ways these are more important because these are just as hard to topple. people are very attached to the names of things, and if we think about christopher columbus f we were going to go about tearing down everything related to the man, we would have to rename our capital city, washington, the district of columbia, which is something that comes out of columbus's name. what do we do about william byrd ii. if you start to learn more about him, you have to question whether his nam

this is why i say the richmond is a great place for families. the theatre is a treasure in our neighborhood. it has been around for a very long time. is one of our two neighborhood theatres that we have here. i moved here when i was 1959 when i was two years old. we would always go here. i love these neighborhood theatres. it is one of the places that has not only a landmark in the richmond district, but also in san francisco. small theatres showing one or two films. a unique -- they are unique also to the neighborhood and san francisco. >> where we are today is the heart of the richmond district. with what is unique is that it is also small businesses. there is a different retail here it is mom and pop opening up businesses. and providing for the neighborhood. this is what we love about the streets. the cora door starts on clement street and goes all the way down to the end of clement where you will see small businesses even towards 32nd. at the core of it is right here between here and 20 -- tenth avenue. when we see this variety of stores off
