there was the rallying cry in detroit. it would work for general motors for 30 years, you get out and get retirement, insurance. but to me, we have to find a way to take care of the workers. they are the ones that are the victims. i know that people think we are just antiunion but i am thinking from the standpoint of union bosses and also the corporations and entities that can't walk out of this scot-free. they need to make sure that they hold up and do what they need to do. i don't know why, i have been in business for four years. i don't want that contingent liability on my sheet. that is what we have always done. those percentages, maybe it is not 100% but maybe it is 70 or 80%. it has to be a lot more substantial than what it is. the markets we had the first 10 years, we will probably see more that -- more of that. there was a 38% loss in the s&p that year. i am sure that devastated a lot of plans. but again, we have to do this smartly. i don't have all the answers but i have a sense that i want to do -- whatever we do

the courthouse was named after him in detroit, tomac. can you talk a little bit about the legacy outside of the auto working per se, how did it reverberate? >> i know that there was a book about this 50 years ago by the provisions that said it would be fine. one of the reasons i wanted to write my book is today it's a different moment in the history and the auto industry in the union and labor movement in the middle class but he talks about how it inspired some of the lunch counter sit downs of the 1960s. that tactic was sort of pioneered. another reason i want to write is one of our family friends was a sit down the striker who lived to be 98-years-old and felt like his life exemplified what the strike had achieved. he started making 25 cents an hour when he retired in the 70s making 27 which is good money even for today. kind of a local celebrity in lansing. they called him the tooth fairy of the flapjacks act. a waitress would always cover her mouth and had crooked teeth as that it would cost $14,000 so he said here's a check, go fix
