brian kemp is with us right now, the governor of georgia. governor, what do you think of the points that austan pointed out. in the scheme of things and a line i heard from president trump when he was urging mitch mcconnell to go big and mitch mcconnell resisted. now they're going big. what do you think? >> well, i think a lot of people like you said, neil, they just don't know. there's a lot of georgians, we've been sounding the alarm down here and a lot of governors have as well about this package that it's going to benefit new yorkers and californias more than hard-working georgians. unlike what president trump did where he treated all of the states equitably. this bill treats the cities across the country equitably. punishes states that have low up employment rates because they have been winning economically and gives a win to states that are losing economically, which to me is ridiculous. it needs to be changed. be fair and equitable. you certainly argue about the size of the package. i'm in your camp. i think it needs to be more target

. >>> last night while governor brian kemp was signing the bill into law, a georgia state representative was arrested outside of his office. representative park cannon was charged with a felony after knocking on the governor's door during the signing. >> no, you are not representing -- >> she's not under arrest. >> for what? under arrest for what? for trying to see something that our governor is doing? >> cannon and others were protesting what this law now does. it requires a state-issued i.d. to vote by mail, it limits access to absentee voting and ballot boxes, it shortens the window for runoff elections to just one week. remember, democrats won both those georgia runoffs in january, many weeks after the november election. and it makes it illegal to bring food and water to people waiting in line to vote. democrats say the law is a transparent effort to disenfranchise voters, specifically black voters. georgia voting rights advocate stacey abrams called it jim crow 2.0. georgia is not alone. republicans have introduced more than 250 bills in 43 states targeting access to the ballot box.

here now is the man who signed the bill into law just a few days ago, georgia governor brian kemp. welcome, governor. thank you so much for joining us tonight. >> good to be with you. thank you. >> rachel: so i can't think of anything more important than securing our elections and restoring confidence, which i think so many people have lost, especially over this last year. tell our viewers what you think this new georgia bill will do to restore confidence in georgia's elections? >> well, it's very simple it. makes it easy to vote and hard to cheat. really the four main things that i just want to make sure that people realize what the bill does. it takes the signature match process and replaces it with the voter i.d., which is free in georgia. it secures drop boxes in a better way than was done in the last election. also requires poll workers to continuously count or tabulate the ballots until every vote is counted. and then texas pandz access for our early voting period, especially on the weekends. >> rachel: as you know, democrats are raging mad about this bill. they say your bill
