psaki of the white house spokesperson here's what we've heard we are mindful of the fact that we are in the middle of a pandemic we want to keep these kids safe keep the staff safe but we are absolutely committed to transparency and providing access to media to the border patrol facilities and we're working to get that done as soon as we can so this is being set up and you have access to everything once we get to see. it just to be clear how soon will that be mr president i don't know. to be clear. now at this point we've got some voices that seem to be determined not to portray what's happening on the border as a crisis this is a memo from the associated press about how to describe the situation we should avoid or at the least be highly cautious about referring to the present situation as a crisis on our own although we may quote others using that language while the associated press says it may not actually fit the dictionary definition of a crisis a recent poll taken among the u.s. public shows that 76 percent of americans believe the situation on the us border is indeed a crisis.

then there is white house press secretary jen psaki. this morning she acknowledged that what is happening at the border is putting the biden administration in a very difficult position. >> now we're in this tough spot where we need to be able to find facilities, shelters where these kids can have access to educational resources, to lawyers, to doctors. and we are also in a circumstance where we're dealing with covid. we're trying to chart the best path forward. no question this is a heartbreaking circumstance at the border. >> here is what a heartbreaking circumstance looks like. numbers according to federal immigration documents obtained by "new york times" and confirmed by fox. 3,250 migrant children are in custody along the border. a number that tripled in 14 days. more than 1,360 of them have been held in jail-like facilities for longer than the three days that are allowed by law. this is the same kind of situation that the trump administration was so heavily criticized for. now the biden administration so far is not allowing report

the white house press secretary jen psaki asked about it and tried to make the argument that it would only amount to a relatively small percentage of families across the country. >> when we're talking about people -- families making over $400,000 a year, it's a commitment that he talked about on the campaign trail. his interest is in ensuring that people pay their fair share, whether it's corporations on the highest income earners in our country. he believes that hard work should be rewarded and this is one of the areas where there's an opportunity to rebalance how our policies are currently. >> an opportunity to rebalance is how she put it. charles, which families might this impact? obviously salaries can vary year to year. this is irs data in 2018. you can see there's 717,000 families that filed tax returns that made between $400,000 and $600,000. so right up until that level. about the same amount over that $600,000 level. when you talk about right up to $400,000, you're talking about hundreds of thousands of families if the president gets his wish that this could impact. charles?
