nbc bay area's sarah janson is live with us in what this means for san mateo county and the other counties. >> reporter: good morning, marcus. the fight against covid and the progress made in that fight, we're going to see the repercussions of that here in san mateo county this time tomorrow. there will be some big changes heading to businesses and other industries because they will be changing tiers. now, in an email to nbc bay area san mateo county board president said that the county is making a comeback, and there is no longer a substantial risk of covid in this county, but he warned residents, they still need to respect those health warnings of social distancing and mask-wearing so what changes happened in the orange tier? well, most indoor businesses can increase capacity and wineries and breweries can operate indoors at 25% and the big one, non-essential offices can allow employees to return to office but remote work is still recommended. now, sonoma and contra costa counties were the most recent to join the red teerks and those countishes restaurants and gyms as well as movie theat

san mateo county. they have animals science exhibits and like many places 2020 was a rough year as they had to close down for several months. they have been able to allow visitors back to their outdoor exhibits which includes the animals. but thanks to san mateo county moving to the orange tier they can now welcome people back inside and that is good news. that means that we can do a little bit more of our wonderful exhibits in the museum. >> and we have already started doing that with some of the foot powered exhibit so that we're still keeping safe and a lot of social distancing and we'll be able to open up more of our exhibits indoors. we talk to parents on wednesday who say they are just happy to have more options for their children and especially like us for families with with being able to to do more things. >> outside of the home and feel safe doing it is really important. >> is very odd to see here. also there are very happy to be reopening because they're building a plant. brand new playground

san mateo county is saying the current metrics if they continue, the county could enter that orange tier as early as wednesday, march 17th, which is tomorrow. right now the entire bay area is in the red tier so san mateo would be the first county to take that step. so what do restriction change mean for entering the orange tier? most indoor businesses will be able to increase capacity, wineries and brewieies could increase indoor capacity to 25% and nonessential offices would allow employees to return to their offices, but remote work would still be recommended. san mateo county supervisor david canepa says this is a major step forward and he's optimistic about what's next for the county. >> the difference i think this time is the help of the vaccinations and hopefully that will allow us to not spiral out of control. >> reporter: now sonoma and contra costa counties were the most recent to join the red tier and those counties, restaurants, gyms and movie theaters are all able to open with restrictions. as for san francisco, they, too, remain in the red tier but like san mateo they may en

amongst the nature of san mateo county and not far from the hiking trails and 100 county park, authorities say a mountain lion attacked a pet dog. it happened outside of home off raymundo drive in woodside around 9 45 wednesday night, authorities say the dog's owners heard a commotion outside when they looked out the window. they saw the mountain line with their dog in his mouth. the owners told investigators the puma had to jump a six ft. tall dear friends to get to their £50 australian shepherd and as soon as they saw the attack, they took action, one of the homeowners decided to get into her car drive out onto the lawn and start honking her horn at the mountain line to try to scare it off and have it released the dog, which it did. my next door neighbor has cameras around, and she's seen mountain lions come around her property. that's what happens around here. this woodside resident says because of that. he brings his dog tiki inside when it gets dark. this is a rural area. it's not like a mountain lines appearing in the middle of downtown san francisco, the whole point of living aroun
