now a question for bob. you raised the issue in broadband funding, the difference between biden's proposed broadband funding in rural areas and the current funding provided by the fcc. can you go into a little more detail describing the current fcc funding for broadband? chris: i am not an expert on the details, but i know they hold periodic competitive auctions, and it is based on the lowest cost to provide the service. in one of the recent auctions, spacex, which is launching its starling program to bring high-speed internet to rural areas, including underdeveloped countries, they won a big chunk of the last auction, and that strikes me as probably the most cost-effective way rather than trying to lay fiber in rural areas. that is a recipe for expending tons of money and not having very much bang for buck, whereas the space-based satellite broadband will be the way of the future. if they can afford to charge people in developing countries where there is no landlines o fiber, and they can afford to pay, cer
