kari, how is it looking out there for us? >> it's going to be very much like yesterday, if you were out and enjoyed the afternoon, it's going to be like that once again. let me show you where we're headed for the south bay, reaching into the mid 80s. gilroy today 86 degrees while downtown san jose has a high of about 78 degrees. seven-day forecast is coming up in the bottom of the screen. yes, i don't know if you want to take a look or not. let's talk about today. it's going to be 81 degrees in danville. 72 for a high in hayward. we're going to see some of those upper 50s and low 60s near the coast, while palo alto tops out at 76 degrees. we'll see some 60s in san francisco today, still pretty nice there, starting out with some fog in our north bay temperatures will reach into the upper 70s and low 80s. this is the heat that's about to build not only for the bay area but also across the region. there are excessive heat watches and warnings in effect for multiple states and especially for southern california, here in the bay a

your name is kari, kari hall. >> it is all good. it's been so windy and at least today it's going to start to calm down a little bit. here is a live look outside, about 40 minutes away from sunrise and it's going to be a really nice start to our tuesday morning, with sunshine continuing today. so as the seven-day forecast comes up at the bottom of the screen, check that out and see how much you're going to do today as we get a look at what's going on here, we've also had some temperatures starting out in the low 50s and we will see a nice little warmup as we go into today. so as we once again are looking outside in san francisco, maybe getting ready to head out for a jog, in concord expect it to be at about 53 degrees and then heading into the upper 50s and low 60s in the next couple of hours. so our temperatures warming up but just coming down a few degrees compared to yesterday. so take a look at these highs, reaching 68 degrees in martinez and 68 in santa cruz if you're heading that way. san francisco reaching 60 and 72 in morgan

hi, kari. >> good morning. and fortunately for those who spots it's not going to be extremely hot today, as we take a look at our current temperatures, where we're beginning this morning, ooh, it's 69 degrees already in brentwood. it's 62 in oakland. 51 in san francisco, and it is 58 in morgan hill. now we're starting out warm, but we get even hotter as we go into later this morning as well as into the afternoon and our temperatures are expected to continue to stay hot for today, but we do have some relief and places where you can cool off. pacifica upper 60s here today and it's going to be nice and sunny, this is what we mean by microclimates. we have 60s in one spots and highs in other spots. vacaville, concord and livermore will be close to records but a lot of the numbers are just below the mark. as we look at high temperatures up to 101 in morgan hill, 93 in milpitas and 106 in antioch. danville 102 and fremont a high there of 94 degrees. half moon bay will be in the mid-60s but you head over to palo alto

kari has a look at our forecast for today. at least it's pretty clear in that shot, kari. >> yeah. but not everyone is able to see a clear sky as we are waking up to sunshine in the south bay, we're still getting a pretty good layer of fog near the coast and that's going to create a wide range in temperatures while the south bay will be slightly warmer today from the upper 50s to some mid 70s by 1:00 and eventually reach up to 85 degrees in san jose today. 93 in livermore and look at how hot it's going to be for the far north bay reaching the upper 90s while san francisco will see a high of 70 there today. a little bit cooler the rest of the week and we'll talk about that in a few minutes. mike, how is it looking for the commute? >> looking a little bit slower. might not expect this much backup for highway 4 and 242. the top number used to be betteren that the second number as folks made the cut around this map. there's a late pick-up, working on pavement, probably curing from overnight work and down a lane or two towards the bridge and that's causing a bull pen coming out of conco

so let's turn to nbc bay area meteorologist kari hall. kari, how dialed up is the heat going to be? >> well, it's going to dial up just a little bit. but it's all about the micro climates because not all of the bay area will feel that warmth. take a look at san francisco. it's still cloudy here in our marine layer still in full effect. but then as you head inland, it has already cleared out. and we're going to see that sunshine warming things up going into the weekend. so, right now in dublin we're at 69 degrees. we're headed toward the mid-80s here today and we'll rea those s we go toward 3:00 to 4:00 and then see it cooling off once again very quickly going into the evening. as we get a look at all of our micro climates we are anywhere from 63 degrees at half moon bay to 82 in napa and 97 in ukiah while san jose will reach into the upper 70s. so there will be wide-ranging temperatures across the bay area this weekend. and we'll talk about that warmth that's coming up a little bit later. chris. >> that june gloom in san francisco. thank you. we look forward to your forecast. >>> he

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking that and kari, i have a question for you this morning, but i saw your forecast a little bit earlier so i'm like, but how long is this going to last? >> well, we're going to see a few more days of the marine layer near the coast in san francisco keeping it cool and helping us out for our inland east bay spots like pleasant hill heading out the door, a few clouds in the distance, temperatures here in the upper 50s and a slow warmup today. it's still going to be fairly comfortable as we head toward noon. high temperatures reached the mid 80s. you can see the range in temperatures from 62 in half moon bay to 90 in clearlake. parts of the south bay in low to mid 80s. we'll talk about the changes ahead in a few minutes. any problems for the commute? >> folks are moving better at the bay bridge but not here at the toll plaza. not yet. look at thep map where we have a crash in san francisco that did clear. one over at ninth and the one at harrison and the backups looks like it's clear from the roadways. we've had the last ten minutes show really good

are the winds going to continue today, kari? >> yes, they're going to be a windy day and we've seen the gusts at 35, even 45 miles per hour, and we're looking at more of that for this afternoon. as you get ready to head out for work this morning it's a little bit of a chill in the air and san jose starts out with low 50s. we only make it into the mid to upper 60s for today, so it's much cooler than what we should be feeling in the beginning of june. we're up to 67 degrees in santa rosa. san francisco reaching 61 degrees and we'll see some upper 60s in morgan hill but we will warming up and we'll talk about that in a few minutes. mike, is the commute heating up? warm up, which is slowing down in spots here, the richmond-san rafael bridge west 580 and the sun is why it's heating up literally. a look at the maps i'll clear my throat but can't clear the roads. i'm doing what i can. 580 the backup and the bay bridge finally the toll plaza is fully filled up for the lanes and that's what clears things across the span getting into san

let's check in with kari right now. she has a look at our temperatures. >> we do have some nice weather in our forecast for maybe getting outside and getting some fresh air together. we'll see temperatures in the low 70s for today and tomorrow, and then it warms up to the upper 70s by the end of the week, this weekend is looking nice and spring-like, highs in the mid 80s as our sunshine continues. san francisco will see those temperatures in the lower 60s for the next few days. it's been so windy, it's still going to be breezy today but the winds coming down a little bit each day especially as we get closer to that weekend. mike, how is it looking for the morning commute? >> i wanted to show folks the travel times as you would expect here about 35 minutes on average from pittsburg toward walnut creek if you take 680 and 242, kicker pass road a little slower than we've seen but typical for a tuesday as well, going back to the note. another note as we take a live look out there the san mateo bridge still look at that over

meteorologist kari hall is tracking that. the trend is going down at least the last few days. >> what makes it better, the fact it's friday, even though it's still going to be hot it's going to be so much better. here is a look at our clear view this morning starting out in san jose the mid-60s as you step out the door and going to see a quick warmup once again. where we can find relief is the coastline. reaching into the upper 60s that is going to feel refreshing. all of us can't be there so we have to deal with some of these temperatures as we are going to see the potential for some records to be set very close. napa reaching 98. we're not close to the record there. 110 degrees and thank goodness. vacaville headed up to 103 today, four degrees shy of a roar. a lot of the records were set in 2017 so you may remember that. in fairfield we're just one degree below a record and it's possible that we could tie that one at least. south bay high temperatures, milpitas reaching 93 and morgan hill a high of 101 degrees. we'll see tr

let's bring in meteorologist kari hall this morning. we haven't seen any rain in the bay area for weeks. we know how dry it is out there. >> we're seeing the highest level of the drought in the bay area as we see the dark shadings of red and we have seen well below average rainfall. the vegetation has dried out rapidly. we have to be careful even with favorable weather conditions, we're only going to see our highs reaching into the upper 70s, but with us approaching the fourth of july, a lot of people may get careless with the sparks and that's something we don't want to happen at this point. i'll be following that as well as the forecast, another update in a few minutes. >> yeah, that threat of fire always so close. thanks. want to bring in "today in the bay's" cierra johnson in vallejo on that scare for homeowners there as the dry conditions are really throughout the entire bay area. they had a fire there. >> reporter: yes. good morning. exactly. i want to start by setting the scene of how dry things are here in vallejo. we're a coupl

kari, none of those gains sound good to you? you're in the jim camp of it is just -- i can't sell it to my peeps so i don't want any of it? >> well, all of those returns sound great to me. i mean fantastic but if you have clientele that say they don't want any fossil fuels, you don't say, hey, sorry, we're going to buy them anyway, is that okay, because the answer would be know the answer, in fact, is no for about $30 trillion of assets managed around the world now, i'm not making a case that joe and steve or jim shouldn't own these stocks because they're going up, because the cycle has been so horrible for them. i have to make the case that the trend for $30 trillion -- that's the number -- of sri funds in the world does not want to own fossil fuels, and that's part of why the long-term trend has been down and will probably continue to go down for these stocks. that's why they've gone from over 10% of the s&p to at the lows 2%. remember, when the price of oil was zero, zero, that was last april, everyone who was an expert said,

kari? >> yeah. we are seeing changes here. we've had high pressure that causes the air to sink and keeps the smoke near the ground. right now we do have low pressure and it's causing the smoke to rise up and move away from that area. as we look at the ground sensors, the green dots show us air quality is pretty good and that's what we've seen over the past couple days and near the area of the fire, we are seeing some more favorable weather conditions, meaning that temperatures are cooler. we have higher humidity. that could slow the spread of the fire along with the calm winds that we are seeing right now. but over the weekend we did see some of that smoke traveling into parts of the south bay. it's once again moving into the upper levels of the atmosphere so it's not yet choking us out at the ground level and we will see changes as we go through the week. we will watch that and our air quality and our temperatures. i'll have another update in a few minutes. what's going on for the morning commute? >> well, i'll take it over f

meteorologist kari hall keeping her eye on the temperatures for us today and kari, yesterday was a nice one, are we going to see a repeat? >> yes, and it's been so cool for this time of year, it doesn't really quite feel like june. it's more like march around the bay area, and we've had so much wind, it's mixed out the fog so we're not seeing that in san francisco. it's another windy day. we see a strong ocean breeze and winds at about 25 to 35 miles per hour at noon, getting even stronger again this evening, but we will have a warmup as the winds calm down, we'll talk about that in a few minutes. >>> mike, how is the commute looking? >> we're starting in the south bay, silicon valley sees one crash and it's been there for over a half hour. south 280, just past the 85 split or merge depending on which direction you're going. we look at a little bit of slowing on the sensors as well so just going to note that it's over there likely on the shoulder, completely clear of any of the other problems and the rest of the bay. we have the 84 closure typical through alvarado niles and early slowin

let's check in with kari. she's got a look at those temperatures. >> it's been great to have the cooler temperatures moving in compared to the record heat we were dealing with last week. in spots like dublin, we can enjoy a lot more time outside as even the sun continues to shine. we've seen some coastal clouds, and that's what's helping to keep the bay area cooler. so it's only 71 degrees. if you'll be going out in the next hour, it'll be at about 75 degrees, and notice the high temperatures hit the low 80s and then come back down, and that's when we'll also see those winds picking up as we get a stronger ocean breeze picking up for the bay area. taking a look at our high temperatures for today, reaching into the upper 70s in east san jose and 73 in gilroy. for the east bay we'll see temperatures reaching into the upper 70s here as well. but vallejo, for the most part, stays in the upper 60s. as you look at the seven-day forecast, you will see that we will have some warmer air on down the line. we're going to

meteorologist kari hall watching the lack of rain that we're getting here in the bay area. kari? >> so dry during the winter months. the rain was too few and far between, and now we're getting some high winds here and there, and we've seen some gusty winds even kicking up this morning. as we take a live look outside in san jose, a few clouds dotting the sky and at least we do have a cool ocean breeze that's been picking up. still looking at some of those winds coming in from the west at about 20 to 25 miles per hour. it will still be gusty today, but we shouldn't see any winds as high as we did yesterday. we had gusts at 57 through the altamont pass and a lot of 55 readings. today it looks more like 25 to 30. still quite gusty as we still will have the concern of the fire danger because of the dry vegetation that we're seeing and the lack of water in those reservoirs. as we look at our temperatures for today, it has been cool because of that cool air that's been coming in off of the coastal areas, so we're going to continue to see this for a couple more days, and then we'll warm

good afternoon, kari. >> good afternoon, and those temperatures are starting to heat up. before we even reach noon here's a live look outside in san jose. here's a look at what we're experiencing right now that the heat advisory is just beginning to continue through 9:00 this evening for parts of the south bay, peninsula and parts of the north bay shaded in orange and included in that heat advisory, a step above that, will be the excessive heat warning that shows that we will see some hotter temperatures in some of those spots today. here's where we already are, wow. 96 degrees in livermore and 95 in brentwood. we haven't even made it to lunchtime yet. we're at 85 degrees in santa rosa and 79 in oakland and in san jose it's 86 degrees. so these temperatures are heating up fast. that's because they are headed right back to the possibility of setting new records, especially in vacaville, fairfield, concord and livermore. we'll be very close again today as we deal with this third day of extreme heat. we'll be watching a cooldown in the being if. i'll have more on that coming
