i am marcus washington. >> i am laura garcia. at least one person is dead following a partial condo collapse in south florida. this is all near miami beach. >> crews are in the middle of a massive search and rescue effort to find anybody that was trapped. we turn now to sam brock. >> reporter: i'm on the scene of a partial building collapse in miami. this is surfside, a small town, 15 or 20 minutes away from south beach that you are likely familiar with. firefighters and rescue teams are going balcony to balcony at this moment and looking for people. at this side, from this vantage point, it looks okay. in the words of one resident, it pancaked and collapsed. there are drones on top of the building right now trying to provide firefighters and rescue teams with an aerial view. it's important to note this building was built in 1981, just over 40 years since its inception, which is significant because there were inception requirements after 40 years, and right now they were in the process of going through the roof to inspect the bui

i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia. first to the story a lot of people talking about this morning, that earthquake that struck around dinner time last night. it was a 3.9 magnitude earthquake striking at about 6:30 at night north of san leandro along the hayward fault. >> i want you to take a look at the shaking there, felt in east, south and north bays at a san leandro liquor store the quake left thousands of dollars of bottled inventory teetering on the shelves. one of the worker's wife called us and told us about the shaking. >> she was kind of scared how long it was going to last and how it was going to be, but it was a little bit, a short time. >> no damage or injuries were reported but experts say bigger quakes are sure to come. meteorologist kari hall joining us now, and kari, this was felt by people all across the bay area from san francisco to san jose. can you talk to us more about the fault line and where this is all centered? >> yeah. as you mentioned it is on the hayward fault and it was felt across the bay

. >> and i'm marcus washington. a with mike but first the day many of us have been dreading, those triple digit temperatures back in the bay area. this time it will be even hotter. our coverage begins this morning with the woman who is tracking all those dangerous temperatures for us all week, meteorologist kari hall. when can we expect the triple digits to arrive? >>> we're going to start to see that by this afternoon. we had some of those highs over 100 degrees yesterday afternoon. and today it's going to be even hotter. take a look at this map. it does show some bright colors here. bright pink shows where we do have the excessive heat warnings and some of the hottest temperatures we'll see. around the bay, san rafael reaching 88 degrees, pleasanton 104. morgan hill today will reach 102 degrees. we need to conserve energy, try to spare the air as we have have unhealthy air quality as well as more of this hot and dangerous weather. we'll talk about that and the fire danger. mike? >>> the bay bridge toll plaza, not

. >> and i'm marcus washington. we're going to check in with traffic in a minute. >>> first we have to talk about the increasing heat across the bay area. meteorologist kari hall is here with our first look at what we could see and feel throughout the bay area today. kari? >> it's going to be a lot hotter today compared to yesterday, and that heat will be ramping up, but actually peaking tomorrow, as we will have the hottest day of the week, possibly of the year, as we are going to see some of our inland valley temperatures reach over 100 degrees. it's still going to be warm this weekend, with highs reaching into the 90s, but the heat advisory begins today at 11:00 for these areas shaded in orange and for the pink areas, where temperatures will be hottest, where we will have excessive heat warnings. this continues through friday as we have a span of three days of hot temperatures. it begins today with a few areas in parts of the inland east bay and north bay, reaching 100 degrees but then tomorrow even hotter. we'll

i'm marcus washington. we bring in meteorologist kari hall who may have felt this quake and do we know which fault this was? >> this was the san andreas fault, so a lot of people are really concerned about this. we had about 300 people who were shaken out of bed and reported to the usgs, yeah, i felt that and this heat map shows you the light shadings, exactly where and which areas in the bay area that felt that quake, so we are seeing that and feeling that in the south county right now. once again that was on the san andreas fault. it happened a little while ago a 3.5 but we continue to watch these very closely because it could be a foreshock to a bigger event. we'll be watching this. hopefully no more shaking. does this have any impact on the b.a.r.t. lines? >> b.a.r.t. doesn't start for another half hour, no problems reported. most of us in the studio didn't feel it here but we'll check. the closest station is berryessa just off of 680. 84 has the normal closure. here is silicon valley, san jose, saratog

. >> i'm marcus washington. all right. let's get a look at that forecast for you and kari, good news that it's going to be cooler today but still dealing with the dry conditions out there. >> right. that's the reason why we have this high fire danger that continues. the exceptional drought across much of the bay area and unfortunately due to the dry conditions even with cooler temperatures we have to watch our fire danger for today. the highs, cooler than the weather we've had, reaching into the upper 70s for the inland east bay and low 60s near the coastline. we'll talk about that and what's coming up in a few minutes. >> an easy drive, kari, one crash to call out, this is moving smoothly, the crash is getting off of that richmond bridge from san raphael. a motorcycle involved. apparently took out a posts at the richmond parkway off rahm ramp. it was the one that caught my eye. everything else was very calmly and smoothly through contra costa all the way in toward the bay bridge and the maze. back to you. >> thanks, mike.

"new york times," cnn, paypal went down as a cloud company called fastly suffered an outage. if anything it shows us how many websites rely on a single provider to keep them on the internet. now fastly says a fix has been applied, if you go and visit those sites, they should be back for you, also apps on your phone may be affected as well. fastly is sort of a middle man between you and the website that you want to see. they store a copy that you can get faster than the actual site, again this all seems to be back at this point marcus and laura, we do not think there was any criminal activity behind it. >>> a nationwide search is under way for a san jose mother accused of killing her young son, leaving his body in the las vegas desert. >> this is a h

i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. the breaking news this morning for you. did you feel it in the south bay? a minor 3.5 magnitude quake centered near watsonville south of gilroy happened at 3:45 this morning. you can see a lot of people feeling the shaking. people are tweeting about it. we bring in meteorologist kari hall with more on why we actually felt this quake and let's look at the fault that it was on, kari. >> yes, so it was on the san andreas fault and we had about 300 people who woke up and told the usgs i felt that, and this shows you the intensity and where the concentration of the people who felt that earthquake was. so we are still watching this, as we do monitor even the minor quakes because they could be a foreshock to a larger event. we had quite a bit of shaking around the area, maybe feeling it in the south county this morning and hopefully we don't have any more activity, but of course we'll keep you up to date, and we'll have more on the forecast as well coming up in a few minutes. >> thanks so mu

i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia. first contra costa in san jose expected to take action today to keep people in their homes as the state reopens. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell is live this morning. i know the state could soon be taking similar action as well. >> right, marcus and lara. contra costa county where we're at, that board of supervisors will be voting on whether or not to extend its moratorium on evictions for people who rent. currently that is set to expire june 30th. the supervisors could push that date back to september 30th giving renters an additional three months to catch up on their rent. the city of san jose considering a similar extension, and the state of california also looking at extending its moratorium until september 30th. california lawmakers are likely to go along with that extension. governor newsom has proposed using federal coronavirus aid to pay off the unpaid rent that people owe. it would take time to distribute that money. some tenant advocacy groups want the nation's most popul

i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia. contra costa county in san jose expected to take action to keep people in their homes. >> bob, i know the state could make similar actions as well. >> correct, marcus and laura. here in contra costa where we're at later this morning the board of supervisors will vote on whether or not to extends the moratorium on evictions for renters, for people who have been behind the rent because of the pandemic. that moratorium is set to expire on june 30th. supervisors could push that back to september 30th giving renters an additional three months to catch up on their rent. the city of san jose considering a similar extension today and the state of california also looking at extending its moratorium until september 30th. the press democrat reports california lawmakers are likely to go along with that extension. governor newsom proposed using federal coronavirus aid money to pay off all the unpaid rent that people owe but it would take time to distribute that money. some advocacy groups wants th

. >> i'm marcus washington. we begin with breaking news out of richmond. police investigating an overnight shooting at redell is live outside of police headquarters. one relative says this is a deadly shooting. >> reporter: right. we believe two people have been shot and killed. good morning to sear ra and marcus. we are in touch with the richmond police department and we are trying to get information and they said they would get back to us shortly. everything we know comes from family members. a number of people were shot around 11:00 last night, this was at a home on the 2100 block of dunn avenue here in richmond. it's not far from the intersection with 23rd street. one family member tells us his young nephew was killed. another family member tells us his uncle was killed. that's at least two people shot and killed. we believe at least four more were wounded. a family member explained to us that everyone had gathered for a guatemalan marimba, music and dancing to celebrate father's day. we don't know what led up to the shooting nor if we know police have
