nbc 4. >> thank you, ginger. and now, the rise has been issue ug the first mandate to require health care workers in work settings to be vaccinated or receive the second dose by the end of september otherwise, they must get weekly covid tests and otherwise medical facilities and other facilities will have to be tested 72 hours before an indoor visit. and in the bay area, every employee has to be vaccinated or face weekly testing. this morning the city of san jose made that announcement which impacts 8,000 employees including the police and fire. the mandate takes effect august 23rd, and the mayor says that at some point he expects the order to become a full vaccination mandate meaning get a shot or get another job. for those who are choosing not to vaccinate or take the weekly test will be put on unpaid administrative leave. >> we need to do everything that we possibly can to ensure that we can safely serve our community and the only way we can do that is to ensure that everybody is vaccinated. >> the new stats f

nbc bay area's bob redell is here with more. kids were sent home. >> reporter: a number of sixth and seventh graders were sent home, sent them home earlier this week because of exposure to covid. "the mercury news" says it was a fully vaccinated teacher who contracted covid, who tested positive. it's our understanding that the kids were september home on tuesday, that they were unvaccinated and had not yet tested negative for covid after being notified about the exposure to the teacher the day before. now one parent tells us that the email from the school explaining the negative covid test requirement was confusing. now, becky hill, she's a parent of one of those unvaccinated sixth graders. she's angry because she says her 11-year-old daughter was hand picked out of class and then told to contact her mom to come pick her up. an adult from the school never contacted becky directly. becky also questions the policy if a full el vaccinated teacher contracts covid, why only remove the unvaccinated kids from the class, why not all the

in washington, alice barr, nbc news. >>> is the mourned vaccine more effective? a new study from the mayo clinic finds that people who are fully vaccinated with moderna might be less likely to have a breakthrough case with the delta variant. researchers say that in july in florida, the risk of a breakthrough case was 60% lower for mourned recipients as compared to pfizer recipients. to be clear though, researchers found that both vaccines strongly protect against severe disease. the mayo clinic study has not yet been peer reviewed. >>> a small study out of israel finds that a third booster shot of the covid vaccine seems to be working for people who are immunocompromised. in mid-july transplant patients received a booster shot. researchers say those patients were twice as likely to develop strong antibodies as they were after the two shots. the study also has not yet been peer reviewed. >>> plus, the delta variant spreads nationwide, the department of health and human services is taking action. it will require vaccinations for more than 25,000 of its health care

you then moved to america to head up nbc news, and later become president of nbc, one of america's big three networks. what made you want to get into journalism in the first place? you know, when i was about 15, i started volunteering on a local newspaper site that was looking for a reporter in local schools to talk about what was going on in the school. it was the hitching and stevenage gazette, and i started really enjoying it. and then, i went from there to start doing local music reviews of a local music venue that often attracted some quite good bands, and realised i could get good access behind the scenes and start doing exciting things, even at the age of 16, 17. by the time i was at college, i started making plans to launch a student radio station. i did some articles for the london student newspaper, and itjust grew from there, really. then i was given the opportunity for my year abroad, because i did part of my degree in french, to go and do a postgrad journalism course at bordeaux university. and i spent a year there, and i was completely smitten and i was completely focused
