the people who are fighting the caldor fire. firefighters, the national guard, everybody based here at the casinos right now as they continue that fight. let's take a look at that new video we got in overnight this was shot in echo lake where firefighters have been battling against the intense fire continues we have been talking about and that red flag warning still in effect right now. with retalking gusts of around 40 miles an hour. they were dealing overnight. the embers creating spot fires that cal fire has been having to try to put out before they turn into basically large if anyerns of the fire that could help it spread. at this point the fire is about three mile away from south lake tahoe. it is inching closer to heavenly ski resort. taking a live look right now at the picture there. you can see the fire in the distance. it has been approaching. they have been using some of their snow making machines to try to add another layer of protection there against the fire that continues to march toward it. firefighters have been

the caldor fire. anne makovec is live in south lake tahoe with signs of progress. >> reporter: the weather has been cooperative with firefighters. cooler temperatures and lighter winds a we are expecting update from cal fire in about a half hour. hopefully we will have good news as far as the progress they could make over night. we did shoot this new video about five miles from where i am standing. that was in christmas valley. you can see how firefighters are working two safe property. they are allowing the fire due to burn on one side here of highway 89 and you can see it as ripping the trees there on the hillside to their homes on the other side of roadway from where my photographer was standing, so, they are allowing the related ba natural firebreak protecting the homes. those are the sorts of strategies they are having the use with this monster fire. the latest numbers burning almost 200,000 acres, it's 20% content, here is what cal fire had a say yesterday about where the thing was heading. >> t

so here is a look at the fire for the caldor fire. it has been updated here and it is about three miles away from south lake tahoe and putting the wind speeds on here. you can see generally those winds out of the west pushing east and that's what is pushing the flames and pushing that fire even far east. watchingthis very closely for you as we are going to continue with the gusty conditions as we head through the day. that red flag warning will remain in effect until 11 tonight. even after that, i will show you future cast still dealing with windy conditions up there. as we go through the day. smoky skies, in fact hazardous air quality, that thick smoke is making difficult for firefighters to really fly into that fire and fly with the helicopters and fight the fire from the air. that is just how difficult it is and not only dealing with the smoky skies. that heavy, thick smoke and hazardous air quality but relative humidity values will continue to drop to the single digits with the strong winds. that red flag warning in effect until 1
