the president goes up the hill and doesn't ask for bif to be voted on alone. then in a phone call to congresswoman dean from 40,000 feet in the air on the way to rome, you were great on tv but then doesn't say to her, hey, you should probably have this vote on bif by itself. i've gotten confirmation that this whole thing did happen from a senior democratic aide on the hill. what was up with what congresswoman jayapal was doing if you have any insight into that? >> yeah. i mean, colleagues broke this conversation, this story. it seems like, you know, she was being clear about where her caucus stands, right? in trying to get the president to say -- to agree with them. and at this point we've seen mostly that this white house has kind of been on the side of progressives when it comes to the process aspect of things, right? a lot of things got pulled out of that bill that progressives really wanted. obviously a lot of health care issues got pulled out, paid family leave pulled out and so what jayapal is trying to do is continuing to use the power that she has, use

these things were put in tandem that these were going to go together, that now you have to vote for the bif when i head to rome so i have a win to show people, and also you have to take all these cuts, these difficult cuts that senators joe manchin and kyrsten sinema agreed to. that is part of the issue here. is that there's such a lack of trust. that's why they had to step in, that is why he had to use that presidential capital as you put it to actually try to make this thing move along. but some folks wanted him to do this earlier, to lean and talk about how important this was earlier and they're happy he's doing it now, but the process, the timing doesn't have to be now, right? they still have negotiating to do. progressives are really feeling their power, they know that their votes are needed, and they have a lot of things that they still want to put in and take out of this reconciliation bill before they they vote for bif. that's one of the things we'll see. i don't think we'll see until next week. congressman today were heading home and weren't expecting to come back tomorrow anytime

expect that as we get closer to the date without a resolution, but in terms of this bipartisan bill, the bif and then the build back better agenda, this sreconciliation bill, our long standing view has been that failure is not an option for democrats and in some ways, this sort of drama around the debt ceiling probably means that's even more true. that they need to show americans that they can govern that they are kind of competent stewards of the economy, of the government, and that it increases the sense of urgency that they need a deal on these things i may be more iterative in terms of ultimately getting a deal, but we believe there will be a resolution on both the bipartisan deal and this reconciliation deal by the end of the year. >> that's a really important point there that this debt ceiling thing followed by the two others are a referendum on the democrats' ability to govern i thought you said for a minute, build back butter. i would like that, actually. that works for me. >> with the americans support. >> that's something we all can support. >>> supply chain woes are getting worse
