here's nbc bay area's tom jensen. >> reporter: ronart park and public safety officials made the call to put the schools in lockdown after people spotted this female cougar along a walking trail within 100 yards of the playgrounds just before 8:00 this morning. >> we basically put ourselves between the animal and the school. >> reporter: the cat hunkered down as police officers waited for advice from fish and wildlife officials and two scientists who have been studying this cat for months. >> the last thing we wanted to do was harm the animal in any way. that's one of the reasons why we contacted the biologists and fish and wildlife.e it. >> reporter: within a couple of hours, the team was on site and the cougar was tranquilized. the cougar will be staying at this wildlife rescue center in petaluma where they will monitor her behavior. but those who were tracking her since march will make the final decision on whether or not she can be returned to the wild. one of those scientists tells me blood taken from the cat is being analyzed along with numerous other tests. he said she does hav
