ashley parker, this is one of the problems facing kevin mccarthy. he is also being accused of not punishing them for the bipartisan infrastructure bill if is something new for washington. >> especially because when you think of infrastructure, this was a key legislative goal of former president trump. the punch line was every week under donald trump was infrastructure week and there was always some sort of chaos or controversy. but the idea that 13 republicans that voted for something that is always bipartisan, and not just always bipartisan, but something that the previous president desperately wanted, he was still the de facto leader of the republican party, could lead to punishment gives a sense of how toxic things have become. and he is restoring, as he promised, bipartisan comedy do a governing body where it doesn't exist any more. >> the former president taking sides in all of this. giving the most extreme republican support, continuing to challenge the election, and punishing mccarthy for not being loyal enough when kevin mccarthy went down t

parker. i just spent five days talking to voters in virginia. and their definition of urgency is very different than what congress' definition, the democrats' definition of urgency seems to be. to a lot of them, it looks a lot like what it looked like before, which is chaos, before, for a different reason, but it still doesn't look like they're getting done what they put those folks in office to get done. so here is my question. bottom line is, the voters went to the republican side, in big numbers, right? what are the discussions like inside the party about why and what they're going to do about it? >> well, chaos is one of the keywords. and in looking at the challenges that president biden is facing in his approval numbers, that's one thing that comes up. and you put it to a congresswoman who made a similar point, but there is this idea that what people liked about joe biden, what he campaigned on, was sort of core competency. even to the point of being boring. and you saw that start to ero

we are back with ashley parker, carol leonning and phil drucker. who heard the call to the blood banks? >> the people at the blood banks heard it. but the problem that we uncovered in this reporting is that there were so many red flags that were missed and that were not sort of put into context by the powers that be at the top of some of these agencies, especially the fbi, but also the military and other elements of the federal government. the warnings were there to be seen. the chatter was live for anyone who wanted to look for it on social media. and by the way, the red flags continued into the morning of january 6th. we obtained and listened to chatter from park police radio communications early that morning, 8:00, a.m., 9:00 a.m., down at the washington monument and the lincoln memorial, where there were hundreds of pro-trump demonstrators clashing with police. they were leaving back packs unattended. some were carrying pitch forks down on the mall. those approximate all signs this was going to be a vie help day yet there was no movement to def

. >> ashley parker, watching the speechers and the run-up to the censure vote today, in my view, will make you feel sad for your country. whichever side of this you're on. it certainly was a display. and it certainly only deepened the divisions in congress. a congress, i note, joe biden needs in all ways. so how is the white house watching all of this? >> well, it also undercuts in many ways president biden's, one of his key campaign arguments and promises that if he was just to simply get elected, he, joe biden, a deal maker, a creature of the senate, bipartisanship would return to the body. and that he could prove that congress could work, washington could work, and could govern. in some ways, he has. he just signed into law his $1.2 trillion infrastructure package on monday. but when you look at a congress like that. it wasn't just the censure vote, and of course the video that prompted it, but the speeches were so politicized, so partisan, you really just see there's very little room for joe biden to work with a congress like that. one final thing worth noting. all of the republic

we're back with ashley parker and rick stengel. just set the stage for the trilateral meeting which is happening, i think, in a few minutes. >> sure. so, you know, president biden, just to go back a little bit, when he took office, one of the things he was determined to do was repair relationships with allies around the globe and kind of declare america is back. and he was met with some understandable skepticism, in part from leaders who had seen the past four years under former president trump and as his administration went on by some of his own actions such as unilaterally withdrawing from afghanistan. so, you know, these are our neighbors to the north and the south. they are a priority. biden made sure to do his first virtual summits with trudeau and then the mexican president, and this is the meeting in-person. there was an individual meeting between each of them and now the three men will come together and what's interesting is they're not really promising many deliverables. we don't expect that many specifics out of this meet
