. >> catie, thank you for that. >>> joining me now, amy harris. welcome. i know it was a tough experience for you as well. but you said the astroworld crowds were among the most aggressive fans i've ever seen at a festival. when did you get a sense that things were taking a turn for the worse? >> we saw early in the day, a much more aggressive crowd as we got word that fans had tried to bum rush through the vip entrance around 12:30 in the afternoon. and throughout the day, we saw lots of scenes where, like, these large groups of fans would rush into areas that were restricted. at one point, around 4:30 p.m., we were trying to get in and out of the photo pit area in front of the stage. and there were about 300 fans who had jumped the barricade wall, and we were having trouble getting in or out of a very small space. after that, we requested assistance from our contacts on site, and they re-routed the photographers and videographers to a safer path and then out. but throughout the day, it seemed that when the fans wanted to go somewhere, whether it was rest

joining me now nbc's catie beck with more details on this. what else are we learning about how this all happened? and who these victims are. >> reporter: i think the central question for investigators is, why this surge occurred. what was the catalyst that made the crowd rush forward and all of these eight people lose their lives? we are outside the venue today seeing traffic and activity as concert goers collect the things they left behind friday night and people paying respects putting down candles and flowers and posting the victims. they're not ruling out a possibility. they don't know what caused the surge. in the coming weeks they'll try to get to the bottom of this into what happened. and going through the security protocols. everything that was laid out in advance why the sight plan. the permitting. making sure that 50,000 people there that all the security protocols were adhered to saying that's the work for several weeks or months. they describe a chaotic and traumatic event as they saw people suffocating, unable to breathe. here's

. >> let's go to catie beck at the courthouse in brunswick. what are we looking for in closing arguments after that key testimony yesterday? >> reporter: well, yeah, chris, that was definitely the top of the mountain in this case, sort of climactic moments on the stand as travis mcmichael faced the prosecution's tough questions about a time line of events that led up to the fatal shooting of ahmaud arbery. as you can hear in the exchange, what prosecutors were trying to do is get mcmichael to answer yes or no questions about the actual threat arbery was posed to him. he says he felt he was threatened, he says he shot arbery in self-defense after they tussled over the shotgun. what prosecutors asked, was he armed, did he show that he had a knife or gun, what were the exchanges like. mcmichael stopped several times to confront arbery about what he was doing, and arbery repeatedly said nothing and continued in a different direction, away from mr. mcmichael. is it possible that you could have stayed in your vehicle and just trailed behind rather t
