yesterday, gm announced a partiership with evgo. ford is in that game why do you like ford >> real quick. this is a company the whole industry considered at best a cyclical ten times earnings you know, the cycle comes and goes in this pandemic, the entire global economy paid ford and gm a great favorite by telling them they didn't have to promote anything they could run at much lower capacity and build cash on their balance sheet. the cash they built in these three years is going to fund all their transition into ev and i don't know about you, but as interesting as rivian is going to be, the f-150 is the most popular thing on wheels ever and they're going to have the electrified version of it and they have showrooms all over the country. i feel like the difference in valuation between ford and rivian and tesla is too great for us to sit here and quibble about. it's here. it's now >> it's also interesting that you say you think the valuation gap will be closed between some of the energy and value companies if you want to call it that

gm is replacing the battery. the issue is legitimate about the cost and how long people are going to keep these vehicles. carmakers generally say they feel the battery is going to last the lifetime of the vehicle. the other issue that we have is today people will keep a car 20 years. when you get past 10 years old, are there going to be replacement batteries because the technology has improved? is there going to be a market for that vehicle because the technology has improved? the chevy bolt 2 or 3 years ago was state-of-the-art. gm is going to have better performing evs in a couple of years. is the market for an old electric vehicle going to be like the iphone four? this is what i love about my job is i have a front row seat for everything. but these are issues and areas of concern. host: last call from the sunshine state, fred. caller: first i have a point. you said it perfectly. it is going to take years to get this right. why are we stopping the production of our oil now? we know it is going to take a while.

to gm and ford, and 90 billion is above gm and ford. lucid i think around 72 billion, 79, where you are seeing tesla, rivian and ford, then i said lucid is around $72 billion, $73 billion. you guys, kelly, i'm not surprised we are seeing as much excitement as we are surrounding rivian we are hearing from people on social media saying, look, they're only going to sell -- they've only sold 1,500 vehicles, these guys are not turning a profit, they will lose more than a billion dollars for a third quarter. it is a wacky valuation. i'm not going to comment on the valuation. way will say is within the auto industry, this is not considered as a johnny come lately, a company that will flame out. many believe it will be around now, whether or not it is as successful as tesla, no way of knowing. no knowing what it will be like in five years, but the feeling is that these guys are the real deal, at least when it comes to electric vehicles, and they will be around and will be a player in the future. >> and we should note -- well, the first point yo
