justin andrews is live at stone ridge mall in pleasanton. police were also called there overnight. >> reporter: just a few hours ago, we are told nine people wearing black busted into stone ridge mall. it is unclear exactly what they got away with, if the suspects got away with anything. let's go live to union square. this is in san francisco, a live picture from our photo journalist. you see a police presence this morning. that's to deter crime. that's because friday the louis vitton store and other businesses were hit by suspects. some businesses had to be boarded up and that's because some of the windows were broken. the criminals seemed to be bold and brazen. witnesses in some cases, 40 to 50 people attacking the retailers. this is inside hayward mall over the weekend. you see criminals carrying hammers and other weapons used to break the glass at sam's jewelers. nordstrom in walnut creek was hit too. >> they have to hire security guards costing 25, 30, $40 an hour. suddenly it books a break even project to even establish a business. >>

justin andrews is live in the newsroom. doctors are telling us we are moving in the right direction with this. >> reporter: so much so that they say we are close to the end of the pandemic phase of the virus and will soon enter a more endemic phase. doctors say vaccinating young kids is making this possible. we know family and holidays kind of go hand in hand for many of us. over the weekend former commissioner of fda and now pfizer board member is saying families can safely gather for holidays with partially vaccinated children. the first dose alone gives significant protection from the virus. he is predicting by january 4th , we'll be moving into the endemic phase. >> on the back end of the delta wave you will see prevalence low across the country. look at what's happening in the south where 7,000, 8,000 a day and they paid a heavy price in terms of high levels of infection. after this delta virus moves through different parts of the country, and it is moving through now, in another month to two, we'll be on the back end

back to you. >> reporter: i am justin andrews live in berkeley. if you are a city worker, you must be vaccinated or you could be fired. city of berkeley made the announcement in september and today is deadline for all city workers to show proof of full vaccination and it is a mandate like i said that was mentioned in september. failing to be vaccinated or tested could mean disciplinary action including termination. only exemptions are medical reasons and religious beliefs but those had to be requested last month. city interns and volunteers fall under the requirement. new employees must be fully vaccinated by first day on the job. when we checked last at least 80% of city employees are vaccinated. >> reporter: i am joycelyn moran. gas prices are still rising but there are ways to find the cheapest gas. in san jose 4.15 for a gallon if you pay cash, 4.21 if you pay credit or debit card. this is the diamond gas station on knox and story road. that's about 47 cents cheaper than state average which is 4.68. that's the highest the average has ever been

justin andrews, kpix5. >> thanks. a lot of shuffling happening there. >>> pfizer's covid booster may soon be available to all adults across the country. fda could give the shot the green light for anyone 18 and older as early as today. joycelyn moran is live from the santa clara county health department. california kind of already got a head start on this. >> reporter: that's right. the state has already been pushing for adults to get their booster shots. this is because state leaders with health experts are trying to avoid the kind of surge we experienced last winter time. cases are rising. health experts are trying to avoid the same thing that happened last year. nearly all bay area counties including in santa clara are in the substantial category of transmission as defined by cdc. in san francisco health officials say infectious rates have risen sharply in recent weeks. the seven day rolling average of new cases hit 11 per 100,000 this week from autumn low of four per 100,000 cases in the last week of october. impo

kpix5's justin andrews is live in contra costa county where 20,000 doses have just arrived. justin? >> reporter: which is certainly good news for parents who have been waiting to make sure their kids are protected from covid- 19. i have been talking to doctors who say more and more kids are catching covid and they say the vaccine is certainly a line of defense. there are about 95,000 kids 5 h 11 years old in contra costa county and they want to make sure most if not all get the covid shot. beginning today, you can bring your kids to a vaccination site in antioch, concord, or richmond. and your children will get the kids' version of the pfizer vaccine which is about one- third the dosage given to teens and adults. doctors say they will get two doses roughly three weeks apart for their maximum protection. contra costa county says other health care providers and pharmacies in the area are stocking up and will be able to take shots to kids very soon. the health officer said we lost way too many kids to this virus and says it is preventable with this vaccine. >> kids are driving the epid

kpix5's justin andrews is in san francisco to show us how it all went. >> reporter: the kids were excited. they were ready to ask the doctors and district leaders those questions as it relates to the virus and the vaccine. that was the whole point of today. according to district leaders. right here at malcolm x academy. these elementary school students have the opportunity to ask dr. vincent mathewss and dr. daniel woolridge. the superintendent knows some of the kids are a little scared of needles and may not understand what this virus is, how it can get them sick, and what is vaccine does. this is just the beginning steps. in the process of district leaders and doctors talking to students and making them feel comfortable. there are 57,000 kids in the district. 22,000 kids fall into the 5-11 age group. matthew says getting kids vaccinated is the safe thing to do. >> we think it is important. as a district, we have been following health and science and we think it is important for all of our young people, as many as we can get vaccinated to get vaccinated. so we want to talk to them about

justin andrews is live to walk us through what is going on. obviously a very frustrating thing for business owners. >> reporter: it seems like every day for the last three to four days the robbers and looters haeee move. we at the stone bridge mall. you see police activity. if you can push into the door, you see the door is pushed in. we are hearing about nine people were here. they broke into this mall and that's all the details we have for this morning at this scene. this brazen crime spree across the area is really getting a lot of attention. witnesses say in some cases 40 to 50 pop are behind the smash and grabs, video capturing the crime. witnesses describe several dozen looters holding hammers and other tools striking sam's yo closelyou can hear workers screaming in fear. macy's and foot locker was also ran sacked. they got off with shoes and clothes. >> it was really scary. you have people that have no consideration, no morals, no understanding for people's safety or lives or anything. you feel kind of helpless. it's really disturbing.
