as you heard lee merritt say, wanda cooper prayed the initial prosecutor out of the way and basically prayed the winning prosecutor into position so that today could happen. i mean that's how the family feels. you just heard them thanking god, thanking the community, thanking each other. they thought that this day might never come. >> reporter: alisyn, can i say a couple of things. one, when you talk about wanda cooper-jones praying her way to justice, that is why the pastor's comment was so much more blown up because this is a person who didn't have anywhere to go to get justice. and to be clear, it wasn't just that she prayed, one of the prosecutors has been indicted by a grand jury because of her nonwork, if you will, on this case. i do want to mention what miss wanda cooper-jones said. i never thought this day would come. and she thanked not only the prosecutors, but she thanked the crowd. she thanked the people who have come out to protest in ahmaud arbery's name. you know him as ahmaud and now he will rest in peace. that's a really touching moment from his mother. then you heard

and i think that what my good friend lee merritt said in that clip is correct more than it is incorrect. when you think about the people who are chanting how the justice system worked and it did what it had to do, you've just identified two different factors in addition to the fact that there was a video, that there's been an inordinate amount of emphasis place upon with respect to how the conviction came about. you change any of those one factors, and we put the outcome of this trial in serious doubt. that does not necessarily suggest that our system is working the way that it did. think about how many things had to go right. you had a prosecutor who wanted to shield three people who are now convicted murderers. you had two months where there arrest. were it not for the love of a black mother and a black father who fought to have the georgia bureau of investigations press forward and get this case moving, we might not be here today. that to me is not a sign of a case that's working or a system that's working. that is a sign of this being more of an anomaly than not, which is why we hav

we heard from lee merritt that should americans have more faith in the justice system tonight. this was an anomaly he said. what are your thoughts? >> i don't think that racism or bias or anything else changed after this verdict. this was certainly the right verdict by one jury. but no one should get complacent and the fact that the crime happened in the first place speaks to very dark factors that exist in american life dtoday. the manner in which the engineer came to their findings here is quite significant in that they broke down convictions for each of the defendants showing that they were really taking this seriously. right? three different defendants with three different levels of culpability, levels of blame, with travis mcmichael the person who actually pulled the trigger getting convicted of both felony and malice murder, two different types of murder. his father not getting the same conviction and then of course roddie bryan. so shows that the jury put thought into this. i think that it would be harder to take this verdict seriously if they had found everyone guilty o

merritt. there have been a lot of racial over and undertones in this trial and some moments that have been very upsetting to the family. >> to say that we refuse to allow black pastors in, it was just so arrogant. it was the essence of white supremacy mentality, almost like thinking because a black man is jogging, that ordinary white citizens can stop him and make him comply. and if he dares not follow their orders, then they have the right to kill him. and to say that that's okay. >> reporter: so you heard there from benjamin crump, who has been with the family and hearing their concerns throughout this trial. we have also heard from the attorney for william "roddie" bryan, he was the person who did not know greg mcmichael and travis mcmichael, but took part in this chase. and his attorney says he expects his client to be exonerated in this case. the jury is the one that decides all this. and we're just waiting for that, expecting to hopefully hear something, sometime soon. guys, back to you.

and, you know, i heard lee merritt said on your network earlier today that this verdict is an anomaly. it cannot be an anomaly. i mean, i can't tell you the countless ahmaud arberys that i have represented, have come across in the course of my career, who have been utterly screwed by the system because of the color of their skin. because they don't have a video and because they are dealing with a prosecutor who won't do his damn job. and so, we can't sit down, especially those of us who work in the criminal justice system, this one verdict and one trial is not definitely not systemic change, by any means. >> but it is accountability, bakari. and i want you to talk a lit bit more about the significance of accountability here. >> i mean, what it shows is that -- and this is the bright spot, and i -- you know, i've been weighing this in my head and hesitant about how to talk about it, but look, the fact is, 11 white jurors in south georgia saw the facts as presented by an outstanding prosecutor, a very fair and able judge. i mean, i've been on this network and criticized the judge in ken

but there was also this story that came out because attorney lee merritt says he approached the prosecution of getting a plea deal and was denied. that really set him off today. but take a listen to this exchange in court that was quite explosive. >> just because they haven't put a gallery up -- what -- they haven't put up a podium outside with a hang man's noose doesn't mean this isn't a trial despite the best efforts of this court, this isn't a trial that's been affected by mob violence of a woke left mob. >> when you think about this, anderson, you're talking about maybe 400 to 500 preachers that showed up and they were just talking about the lord and praying outside. and there was a march here. there was never any talk of any violence. so, a lot of people were surprised by the strong language that was used in court. of course this is not the first time that kevin goff has done this. we should keep in mind, monday is the big day for closing arguments. we believe it could be tuesday by the time the jury gets to deliberations on this. but once again, explosive comments in court touching on
