true, scott. it's been a host of things that have triggered that. number one, we had some really large moves in the vix the vix call buying which is more or less that trader that we refer to as 50 cent. i don't know who it is, but bought an awful lot of february put options and that was one of the hedges that i put on them, earning call options in the vix is like a put option in the s&p because obviously, days like today, days like friday when you see 50% moves friday and 20, 25% moves already today in the vix, those coincide with the big drops in the market, scott they've also been buying a lot of puts in the spdrs so for instance, they were buying the spy december 23rd, the christmas, the 465 puts. those puts have already paid big dividends for the people that own them either as a hedge, which i did, and i existed those on friday, i should have held them a few more day, scott the iwm just yesterday, the december tenth expiration, in other words, not this friday, but next friday. 215 puts big buying there with that index at 224 yesterday and look a

i think that's right i think he's played it very well though, scott. he has learned from bernanke, learned from yellen, this idea of being incredibly transparent, laying out what you're going to do, creating benchmarks for the market to price in and the idea that we haven't yet freaked out. i say yet because who knows if the guys on this committee are going to come in one morning and say the fed is going to raise in six months but if you look at the two-year over the course of this regime of it being at zero and compare it to zero under bernanke and yellen, what you find is that the two-year was much better behaved. the market was not looking over its shoulder the entire time and saying powell is going to hike on us at a time we don't expect. it's only now reached that level of pricing in that first or that second rate hike that's out there. that 50 basis points was there during the entire time or most of the time that bernanke was at zero so powell has figured out a way to talk to the market in a way that it believes him and the way that gives him the

scott, that is, and the mechanism is surprising. we studied this week, when you look at the summer wave, covid cases be goon rise in july and the media and the delta variant didn't surge until santa september and that's when the market took it in the gut. so it's at the point where consumers panic and the covid spike that anastasia mentioned there are places higher than germany. vermont had 80 times increasing cases since july, yet no one in vermont is panicking, there's no consumer panic and policymaker panic. so in a way i don't think it warrants people to say consumers will cancel travel and the big data doesn't have to take it in the gut. in the meantime it's strange and as the cases start to rise, things that are cruise lines are starting to weaken so the message the market to me is they are paying attention and if it does worsen, that's pressure over the cyclical trades >> all right we'll see where it all goes. >> i know you had something on your plate that you made time for us for thank you, tom >> tom lee joining us. >> all
