aishah hosni joins us live with the details. >> good morning. the lawsuit was filed this week and claims the anti-racist curriculum taught to their kids is racist at its core. the parents claim the county school board adopted a policy in 2019 to eliminate racism. instead the suit alleges it is indoctrinateing students with an ideology that fosters racial division and racial stereotyping and hostility. it claims teaching materials like this tell eighth graders racism only affects people of color and that if they don't make anti-racist choices they are simply supporting white supremacy and the suit alleges this particular graphic describes white talk as verbal and personal intellectual as task oriented and process oriented speech as color commentary. so the suit states it was filed by a diverse group of plaintiffs including a family that just immigrated from panama. another from turkey coming as parents are fighting to take back their schools. it was a key issue in the recent virginia governor's race. voters handed that win to glenn youngkin. we r

the potential shutdown still looming we find aishah hosni on capitol hill. hi. >> good morning. this is just developing in the last hour but i would definitely caution everyone out there, there is still a risk of a government shutdown because this is simply a deal made between appropriators, not necessarily leadership on both sides of the aisle. so the house appropriations committee chair just announced here in the last hour that there has been an agreement reached on the continuing resolution to fund the government that would run through february 18th. now, according to the committee chair, it will be filed sometime today with virtually no changes to existing funding except for an additional $7 billion for afghan evacuees. however, again this is a deal among appropriators, part of the proper se.s we haven't yet heard from leader schumer or mcconnell yet. that's important. some republicans out there have wanted to use the threat of a government shutdown to stop the federal vaccine mandate from going into effect. mcconnell has promised there will be no shutdown but here is senato

let's get the read right now from aishah hasnie following these fast-moving developments on capitol hill. ashiah, what is happening here? reporter: neil, saying something is different than what's actually happening. look, even if leadership says that this bill is still alive the fact is that it is hemorrhaging some key provisions right now. that is why you have progressives sort of scrambling to find some out of the box options, some back up plans. let me remind you that this bill is still not fully baked just yet. several provisions in the bill are still being negotiated. it is still going through the senate rules process that could strip and change the size and scope of this plan. it is already killed immigration three times. democrats want to try immigration a fourth time. all of this will really frustrate progressives if bill comes back way smaller than they anticipated. because they don't have any leverage anymore, they don't trust senator manchin, the progressives are calling on the president to take executive action on certain parts, canceling student debt for example. as the pres

aishah hasnie, on what his latest beefs are are with the big spending measure. reporter: neil, if joe manchin has a problem then democrats have a problem. joe manchin is no rush to get the big spending bill passed by christmas. he has got two issues basically. let me break them down for you. the first is that manchin says he wants to look at the house bill through the lens of the ongoing inflation crisis. he already narrowed in on paid leave. says it shouldn't even be in this bill. second of all, neil, he doesn't like the cost structure of this legislation. we heard this before. there are some social programs in this 10-year bill, like universal pre-k, aca subsidies, that are written only to last one to six years. it is an effort to trim the bill's price tag though really everybody knows these programs will be probably extended, then somebody has to pay for that. republicans call it a gimmick. manchin doesn't like it either. >> this is -- for the american public to understand that if we're going to have revenue coming in for 10 years what are you using revenue f
