ashley zavala kron 4 news. now to big story, the san francisco unified school board plans to close a 125. >> million dollar budget gap in order to avoid a state takeover right now there are not enough students in sf usd schools. but the district is still spending at high levels that created the large deficit. now to fix the budget problem. 90 million dollars will come a direct cuts that includes cuts to student services school budgets. money would also be slashed from technology transportation custodial services and from the administrative offices. 35 million dollars from grant and prior savings would also make up the rest of the deficit. the plan also calls to cut more than 400 jobs. a state-appointed financial expert says there's no way around it. >> we need to look at the staffing at the district level. we need to look at the staffing that support schools indirectly and directly and we need to look at school state site staffing and i'm serving i'm going to reiterate because they think it's a fundamental conc

our capitol bureau reporter ashley zavala explains what led up to the lawsuit. >> walmart slogan might be save money. live better. but based on the company's behavior. one might reasonably wonder whether walmart has re branded to save money. >> losing california attorney general rob bonta blasting walmart the state department of justice monday filed a lawsuit claiming the big box store has violated state environmental laws but you legally dumping hazardous waste from its 300 california stores that waste includes lithium batteries electronics pesticides toxic cleaning supplies, aerosol cans and confidential customer information. bonta says over the last 6 years, walmart has dumped about 159,000 pounds of these materials into landfills in california that are not authorized or equipped for that kind of waste. these products may seep into our communities, taking water as toxic pollutants worked into the air we all breathe dangerous guests. but walmart officials said the company is prepared to defend itself in court in response to the lawsuit. a walmart spokesperson said, quote, we have met

our capitol bureau reporter ashley zavala explains the new regulations. law enforcement agencies across the state. we need to follow in 2022. >> several new california laws will change police practices starting in 2022 in the new year. bad behaving officers will be prohibited from transferring to other law enforcement agencies. the law allows the state agency that certifies police officers to strip them of their badges for misconduct, including wrongful killing perjury and assault the minimum age of those who are eligible to be a police officer will also be raised this year to 21 years old. this new rule does not apply to anyone who's been enrolled in a basic academy or employed as a police officer in california before december 31st of 2021 before police officers in california needed to be 18 years old with a high school diploma soon. the education requirement will also change requiring them to have a college degree by 2023 the state's chancellor of community colleges is expected to come up with a modern policing degree program. some police training pract

ashley zavala kron 4 news. >> there it is another violent encounter on a plane. this time involving a former baywatch actress and raiders cheerleader. patricia cornwall. according to the criminal complaint cornwall was returning to her seat during a flight from tampa atlanta. but a flight attendant was blocking the aisle with a beverage cart. the flight attendant asked her to find an open seat until the service was complete. cornwall then said, quote, what am i rosa parks. 80 year-old told cornwall that her comment was inappropriate. and after a verbal exchange cornwall is seen on video here hitting the man several times in spitting on him. she is facing a year in prison and up to a $100,000 fine and check out the scary images at a utah ski resort after more than a 100 skiers had to be rescued from a chairlift. the skiers were stuck in the bitter cold for hours after a mechanical failure. this happened on christmas eve at the deer valley resort in park city. the ski patrol used ropes to help lower the stranded skiers to the ground. you hear them cheering there. n

and tonight our capitol bureau reporter ashley zavala explains the new rules that will affect california workers. >> new state laws will change some regulations for workplaces across california in january. the state's minimum wage will increase to $15 an hour for workplaces with more than 26 employees and $14 for those with less than 26 employees. in addition to the pay increase workplace safety fines will also see a boost in the new year. the state's division of occupational safety and health can penalize workplaces for each employee affected by a violation of the state's health and safety rules larger employers with multiple offices are hubs can have all of their locations penalized. if there's evidence of a pattern of violations at more than one location on workplace conduct, starting in 2022 california will ban the use of non-disclosure settlement agreements in workplace harassment and discrimination cases. in most cases the law will also prohibit employers from using severance agreements that would keep an employeepfrom speaking out about illegal acts in the workplace. other labor l
