morning, christine. she and her husband run their own home care company... how are you? ..but staff shortages mean both are also out providing support for people like christine. not good? no. the three visits christine gets a day provide the personal care she needs but also allow her to maintain her independence. she's previously been stuck in hospital waiting for home care and knows how miserable it can be. it's hard when you are in hospital and you are bed blocking. what they were doing for me, i can do at home, i can take my own pills, or get my pills, without them coming around me four times a dayjust to give me a pill and i was sitting there doing nothing. you have a good morning and i'll see you later. 0k, thank you. but to provide support at home takes staff. and a survey of nearly 340 care providers by the home care association found nearly all those who responded were facing real difficulties recruiting. for marion and her husband, tim, that means constantjuggling to ensure their existing clients get the support they need. effectively, i'm doing a 16—hour day

christine, let's begin with you. again, another miss on -- a big miss on the forecast for these numbers. what do they show us, particularly as you see this being lower than expected, but revisions upward. >> it is a bit of a riddle here. you got economists debating this morning what went on here. a reminder, when the government puts these monthly jobs reports together, there are two surveys. the government surveys businesses and says how many jobs have you had in a month. the government surveys households and says are you employed, are you not employed? the household side of that survey shows 1.1 million new jobs. that's why the jobless rate fell to 4.2%. that's a terrific number. 4.2%, the lowest on the right-hand of the screen there the lowest since before the financial -- the covid crisis and a very good number. the jobs added back, the survey of businesses was only 210,000 and that was a disappointment, economists thought there would be a lot more. you look at the trend for the year of the jobs added, you see thi

what does that give christine lagarde? the ammunition to argue against a swift increase in interest rates? she has all the swag in her bag to help her fight back the hawks. james foley -- jane foley, how much ammunition does this give her? apparently inflation will dip and it will be transitory and rollover in 2023. does this help christine lagarde? jane: it's it certainly does. gives her more ammunition, as you say. the ecb is not like the fed. they've never thrown out the word transitory. there is something really important. there's a big difference between europe and the u.s., the labor market. central banks aren't that worried. they don't react to cost push inflation. if costco up, it takes money out of our pockets. we have less demand, gross goes down. what you have in the u.s. are significant signs of a second order of inflation. that's wage inflation. that creates the potential for a spiral of inflation. in the euro zone, the latest data for q3 on wages is that there's no sign of wage inflation. therefore, the ecb h

what does christine the guard have to do today? >> good morning. we are expecting an announcement that the pandemic program will come to an end as planned in march. another three months of purchases until that program is phased out and we moved to reinvestment of maturing bonds only. the really interesting thing is what the ecb will do with its regular asset purchase program. their economists have quite a few ideas, most of them expect a temporary increase in the purchase pace to soften the blow, to make sure that there's no effect, that markets will be able to adjust to a new normal, a new pandemic world. that got a little bit more uncertain because of omicron. inflation is also quite strong. unlike in the u.s., the ecb still expects inflation to slow. what they have described this bike as is a hump. christine the guard has said, we've probably seen the most of it and inflation will slow in the course of next year. the ecb is getting new forecast today which takes the outlook until 2024. it will be very interesting to see what those numbers are. h
