[laughter] doctor, things for being with us. professor at the johns hopkins bloomberg school of public health. yesterday, all we talked about with this lab-based study from pfizer biontech, can you help us understand the difference between a lab-based study in real-world study, how why the gap is between the two? >> the lab studies are very informative and are important but at the end of the day, what matters is what the real world data looks like. what we are seeing with infections, hospitalizations, serious disease. the pfizer study was small, fewer than 50 people. it is lab-based data, just good antibody responses to omicron with the third dosed boost -- dose boost. there's other data we are excited about, that's what we are seeing from south africa is many of the people hospitalized with omicron are on room air and don't appear to be is gravely ill as people infected with delta. lisa: i have been asking for a couple months now when we can transfer from a pandemic

meg. >> hey, jon. of course there's big news on that front just in the last hour the fda clearing the first at-home covid pill from pfizer called paxlavid, the first of its kind, an antiviral designed to be taken early after diagnosis within five days, clearing it for high-risk adults and kids 12 or older these are those at high-risk of dying from covid in trial it reduced the risk by 89%, so tremendously exciting. pfizer saying today that it's increased its supply iks peculiarations for next year to 120 million treatment courses by the end of 2022 but it will be in limited supply over the next few weeks, only 180,000 treatment courses by the end of this year. pfizer says we are looking at tens of thousands of packs being shipped to the u.s. before the end of 2021, getting up to hundreds of thousands by the start of 2022. of course, merck also has an antiviral drug at the fda, and we're expecting potentially to hear news on that really at any time you can see pfizer's stock moving higher. we will stay

matt: happy birthday, jon. dani: i just want markets to be calm because i would rather picking up a bottle of bubbly i will be drinking later, but there are some interesting moves shaping up today. volumes are very light. i would point out that in this u.s. futures session, we are seeing some underperformance from russell 2000 futures. when we see this, it is down 0.3%. some concern about the smaller cap, the more cyclical type stocks. of course, as the year ends, sometimes that is some windowdressing moves, but what does this mean as we head into 2022 about whether the big cap tech stocks and continue to succeed? s&p 500 and nasdaq futures up 0.1%. some more sanguine moves in the bond market space. we are seeing a little bit of buying. 10-year gilts, 30 you yields -- 30 year yields lower by one basis point. unfortunately, not ending the year on that nice round number, but still both the 10 year and 30 year yields hovering around their 50 day moving average. we saw some selling to start the week, so perhaps it
