when you see jim jordan now compared to the jim jordan of the benghazi investigation, i mean, how do you explain the difference? >> well, you can't explain it. i mean, look, your viewers are not going to be shocked to know that there's hypocrisy in politics and there's always been some element of where you stand depends on where you sit, on which side of the aisle. but there's something more going on here and i think this really reveals the sickness because not only have people like jordan sort of forsaken their professed principles to the truth and to the importance of the executive and cooperating with legitimate committees of congress, but he's doing so in order to sabotage democracy itself. look, it is absolutely essential to get to the bottom of what happened on january 6th so that we don't have another coup attempt because you can be sure the people who attempted it the first time are trying to learn so they can get it right the next time. so you have jim jordan and the others who are basically using a campaign of lies to destroy the investigation into january 6th. of course in

evan, why do they want to speak with jordan? >> reporter: jordan, jim, has in recent interviews in the last few months, has said he was in touch with president trump. he's given a variety of answers. and the committee in their letter to jordan mentions that they know that he communicated with the former president at least once, perhaps multiple times. they also say that they know he was in touch with people associated with the former president who are in this willard hotel war room surrounding the rally and of course during the assault on the capitol. and they also mention that there was a january 5th message that jim jordan has acknowledged he forwarded to mark meadows, the former chief of staff to the former president, in which this legal theory was outlined, describing how the former vice president, pence, could essentially decline to certify certain states' electors and try to keep former president trump in office. these are among the many things that the committee would want to talk to jordan about. of course, as you pointe

jim jordan, call your office! we've got breaking news, fresh from the january 6th select committee's investigation into the attack on our capitol. last hour, we learned that the committee has sent congressman jim jordan a request for information. it is the second such request made of the republican congressman after pennsylvania congressman scott perry received a similar request n. a letter to jordan, the select committee chairman wrote,

the question, of course, will be will jim jordan cooperate. he did not say whether or not he would accept this request, not a subpoena yet, but a request to talk to this committee. you see other trump allies like scott perry, the republican congressman, reject the panel's efforts to get him to testify. the question would be if jordan also rejects this request, how far will the committee go? will they issue a subpoena? how will he respond to such an effort to compel him to testify? and if that leads to another standout, how far will the committee go and pursuing contempt charges against a sitting congressman, something that could be very difficult to charge in court. nevertheless, jordan for some time has maintained that he has nothing to hide. i've spoke on the him about this multiple times including in july when i asked him about the committee potentially calling him as a witness, and he said he'd be willing to talk. >> you had conversations about january 6th. >> i speak to the president all the time. >> they asked you -- >> they called me. i
