and so did laci's brother. the fact that more than 17 years later, every day, this family is dealing with an unbelievable loss of laci peterson and also her potential. the fact that her mom said she would have been an incredible mom and that she didn't get to see her grandson. never got to meet her grandson, but also her grandson was not able to interact with other family members. and never get to truly know their family. so that was very compelling and certainly an emotional moment hearing from laci's family. >> what about scott peterson? what was his emotion, his gestures, his look on his face when he heard life in prison, no parole? >> he was very stoic. he was wearing a white mask throughout the court proceedings, and what i noticed with him is that he did a lot of really heavy breathing and a lot of swallowing during the entire time and that's what happened, i saw him gulp a couple of times when he learned the sentencing. of course, the sentence was no surprise. it was the only option for the judge to give
