a live look at lake tahoe, earlier this morning, the winter warnings have expired. remember there's still icy roads. they're telling you not to head up there, dangerous travel remains through the south lake tahoe area despite the improving weather because it's still very cold and, of course, they're backed up. drought monitor, let's get to it. we saw such a fantastic improvement in california. nice to see a one-week change and a storm made such a difference. extreme drought being d3. three months ago, 87% of the state was under, last week, 79.4, and as of today, 32.93%. what does this mean? d4, exceptional drought, has been eliminated from the bay area entirely. now we're seeing less than 1% of the exceptional drought category statewide. it's looking promising for the six to ten-day outlook t. sierra snowpack is a big booster during the spring when all that snow melts. right now 158%. folks are also wondering how the california reservoirs are doing. we could be doing a little better. we did see a little increase after yesterday's storm. 57% of the historical average

julian: happening now snow is hitting the sierra hard in the lake tahoe region. i-80 is still closed and there is no timetable on when that may change. highway 50 is also closed at echo summit where several cars are stuck in the snow there. accidents have caused major delays. c.h.p. posted this video showing i-80 after it closed in both directions. the interstate is shut down from the nevada state line to colfax. you can see in this video all of the skiers having a good time. the national weather service has issued a winter storm warning through tuesday morning for lake tahoe. holiday travelers say it's been a frustrating couple of days. >> it's already like noon and we are going to head back to home neighbor an hour or two. >> an abc 7 news viewer told us it took him seven hours to get from south lake tahoe to san francisco yesterday. st rained the entire trip back. it's been a stormy weekend all across the bay area. that is the unmistakable sound of hail pummeling the santa cruz mountains. of course, you can keep an eye on the weather, including live doppler 7

a disheartening update from the lake tahoe fire a few months ago. it could have been arson. the caldor fire burned more than 220,000 acres near south shore. tonight a father and son are behind bars, accused of arson. the eldorado district attorney says david and travis smith were arrested for reckless arson. the d.a. did not elaborate on how they may have started the fire. it damaged one ski resort and threatened several others a few months ago. we'll continue to follow this story and update it at 11:00. >>> also what's going on in marin county. despite being one of the most-vaccinated counties in the country, covid cases are climbing. on thanksgiving, the county was averaging about 20 new cases each day. as of this weekend it's averaging 40 new cases a day. joining us is matt willis, marin county health officer. marin county, we've talked about this for weeks if not months of the one of the most-vaccinated counties in the country. why is it you're seeing such a rise in covid cases? >> we're seeing a significant spike of cases following thanksgiving. it really started five,
