i find, this particularly interesting, especially in light of lori's remarks. in the 1890s remember, there was a plan for washington university, and stanford. it emphasized the use of the quadrangle. lori had that wonderful quote from olmsted, saying quadrangles can be good, but we see here a shift in the orientation of the olmsted seniors curving road approach, to the quadrangle. it is a before and after, what is called college hall burning down. it was replaced by what is called davis hall. this represents a change, where we see more of an emphasis on quadrangles. the curved areas remain. it also reflects on john olmsted's contribution. like their other work, the olmsted's provided very detailed designs to the rhode island campus, including planting designs, with lists of scientific, and popular plant names. for land grant institutions, they have specified areas. here we see a chicken yard. not something that would be featured on the duke or stanford campuses. so, in his later years, olmsted communicated with the leaders of the other land grant universities,
