i thought stacey abrams was the governor of georgia. it just shocks me to find out that she wasn't after all of these years because she has been telling everybody, and the democrats have been telling everybody that she really won the election. i thought she had an office at the capitol and everything. silly me, i guess i shouldn't believe what cnn says after all. here's what i find interesting. stacey abrams can say the election was stolen from her, hillary clinton can say the election was stolen from her. back in 2016. and it was all the russians fault and that's fine. they can say that and they can keep saying it because hillary still does and abrams still does, donald trump can question the election because somehow, we're supposed to believe joe biden got 16 million more votes than barack obama ever did. and 16 million more than anyone ever has in the history of the country when all he did was pop up out of his basement a few times, go out to a parking lot and scream into a teleprompter at about a dozen cars and we're supposed to bel

what do you make of this race with stacey abrams in it? >> the off-year election is going to be a tough one for democrats. we've already seen kind of republican turn youth outpacing democrats. so i think democrats in georgia and really everywhere should be relieved that stacey abrams is getting into this race because there is no one you can imagine turning out voters the way she is able to. so it's great news both for her chances. i think she has a tough road to get to the governorship, but there is a road. and it's also great news for raphael warnock and for democrat hopefuls in the senate because she is going to be pulling out votes for him as well. >> and tara, one more note on this one. if you could just, you know, script the perfect recipe for maximum turnout in georgia, it would be raphael warnock and stacey abrams all on the same bill all at the same time rung, right? i would think that's a boost democrats should be able to take advantage of. >> exactly. and i think one thing that's not getting talked about as it relates to stacey a

but the stacey abrams/kemp, that's next year. her whole calling card, p organize, sign up, vote, and do it in way that overcomes. to many this is a fascinating test, especially in the middle of this national test. >> i have to say, following the supreme court oral arguments yesterday in a case that could affect roe v. wade and then her announcement, i feel it was like some sort of starting gun for 202, you know what i mean? the biggest issues are reaching their boiling point, but to your point, she's a very consistent candidate. you know, voting is good. it's not like some crazy holt potato issue, even though it's become more politicized and she's become more consistent. i don't see her as a wild card. the wildest part is who the republican candidate is. >> but to that point, she is a consistent candidate. she's an energetic candidate. can she convince democrats who might be discouraged. maybe you voted for joe biden and you're not getting everything you wanted, and please come out >> and please come out. the other big question i

in which you'd have stacey abrams. we don't know about vernon jones. he has been doing everything but go rub donald trump's feet in florida to get him to endorse him, but he hasn't done it yet. and herschel walker running against raphael warnock. what do you make of these developments, tara? >> well, i think it's part of the republican strategy. what they are doing is they are identifying minority candidates, black, api, latinx candidates, and they're finding these very far right candidates, or candidates who are willing to be far right just to run and win, just like trump. and so that's part of their strategy. and i have to say, people need to take it seriously. it's been working. part of why they made some of the inroads that they made this past election cycle at the congressional level, at some of the local levels is because they're finding these right wing candidates who are of color and putting them up to run. and these people are saying things that are dangerous. they're saying things that are harmful, that are divisive, but it's working.

should stacey abrams be happy about this? >> reporter: well, certainly she should be happy with this and democrats generally should be happy with this. first of all, stepping back, it is slated to be a bad year for democrats next year because of how people feel about the economy, because of how people feel about president biden. so democrats are in trouble going into 2022. if there's something that would give them a leg up, it's the possibility of holding on, breaking through, surviving 2022, it is a fracture within the republican party and donald trump encouraging that fracture. so in the case of the georgia governor's race, purdue and kemp are ideologically similar. kemp was a trump supporter until it was time to call the 2020 election and kemp was not willing to cheat on behalf of trump. trump didn't like that. you have a difficult primary ahead. that gives stacey abrams an opening. she's an electric candidate but she would be an underdog. this is something at that may give her a shot and may encourage democrats to think t
