vianey arana in for kari this morning. how long is the rain sticking around? >> we have a couple more days of active weather, and is gusty out there on the roads. in addition to the rain you are having to deal with the wind at times, and heavier pockets expected to fall within the next couple of hours. this is storm ranger. again, we are going to continue to see morning rain all morning long, and by all morning i mean now until about 11:00 a.m., and then noon it turns from rain to showers, so it starts to back off a little bit. our next focus is going to be the cold temperatures. our highs, look at that, only in the upper 30s and 40s. i hope you have some sort of coat ready to go, or one for christmas. the coldest days ahead are going to be tuesday through thursday and overnight lows could bring frosty conditions, so think about your pets, your pipes and plants. people, you have a couple hours in through today to get ready for the cold ahead, and i will take you through the entire timing. the latest update on the 7-day forecast, and what you can expect coming

vianey arana, what is behind you? >> mount hamilton earlier today. that's all the snow. so much they closed off the observatory up there because of the snowy conditions. just to give you idea, peak top is 4,265 feet. we've seen snow levels drop to around 3,000 and could get to 1,800 feet by monday/tuesday. we're seeing those model runs start to align a little bit more. start out where we are now with the rain. you see this blue/pink mix, a wintry mix near mount hamilton area. majority of the heavy rain we saw earlier is moving south. we're not in the clear even though flood advisories were allowed to expire because of the concerns in past couple of days and debris flow. but stormranger is picking up wintry mix here and expecting chance of even more snow for the bay area snow tops here. going to get colder. if you like cold, fantastic. it's 40s but going to get into the 30s. i'll talk more about the cold air blast coming up in just a few minutes. >> lot of purple on that map. back out to the sierra. whiteout conditions. 80 closed from colfax to the nevada state line and n

want to get to meteorologist vianey arana. so is that snow going to stick around for a while or what we are seeing with that? >> we started an active weather pattern but nice to see some viewers call the snow beautiful and the cold beautiful because being in california we're not used to cold temperatures. live look, 24 degrees. they have had whiteout conditions there but i also want to show you some photos, even the pg&e wildfire cameras of mount diablo. about 3,849 the peak. you can see some small accumulation of snow through there. however, one spot that hasn't stopped seeing snow is mount hamilton. the peak at about 4,265 feet and, yes, we have seen a dusting of snow in some areas below the 1,000-foot mark but not enough to stick to the ground. not in the clear just yet. it has been cold. we've seen the 30s all morning long. i want to zoom in on the mobile doppler radar storm ranger. mill valley is taking a break from the rain and a chance of seeing light scattered showers through the early morning hours coming out a little

meteorologist vianey arana has been tracking that. >> we're going to get more rain heading into today but it's going to take a long time before we put a serious dent. we've seen some improve chmt is a positive note to take. look at some of the rain season totals. you know san francisco hit a new record this past second. over 15 inches so far in the water year from october 1st to july 1st. santa rosa, over 21 inches even down through san jose which is a rain shattered area. here's the latest on the drought monitor. this gets updated every week. to give you an idea of the improvements that we did see, the current extreme drought conditions in california is about 79.4%. three months ago we were at 87.9% of extreme drought. so there has been some improvement especially for the far northern portion of california and also even in through parts of the bay area. at one point the entire bay area was under the exceptional category. that's definitely helpful. another area that we have seen an improvement is also the reservoirs. it's something we keep a close eye on and right now the three larges
