want to get to meteorologist vianey arana. so is that snow going to stick around for a while or what we are seeing with that? >> we started an active weather pattern but nice to see some viewers call the snow beautiful and the cold beautiful because being in california we're not used to cold temperatures. live look, 24 degrees. they have had whiteout conditions there but i also want to show you some photos, even the pg&e wildfire cameras of mount diablo. about 3,849 the peak. you can see some small accumulation of snow through there. however, one spot that hasn't stopped seeing snow is mount hamilton. the peak at about 4,265 feet and, yes, we have seen a dusting of snow in some areas below the 1,000-foot mark but not enough to stick to the ground. not in the clear just yet. it has been cold. we've seen the 30s all morning long. i want to zoom in on the mobile doppler radar storm ranger. mill valley is taking a break from the rain and a chance of seeing light scattered showers through the early morning hours coming out a little

let's check in with vianey. she's in for mike looking at the roadways. >> that rain keeps coming and meteorologist, kari hall, is monitoring how it looks out there. >> yeah, here's a look at storm ranger. that's our mobile doppler radar. it's scanning across the area. looks like we could see a break in the activity this evening and another round of heavy rain moving in tomorrow. in all, an inch and a half to three inches for the santa cruz mountains, as well as the north bay. the sierra on track to get another four to eight feet of snow over the next several days. taking a look at storm ranger, that's the red scan there parked on san bruno mountain. as you head across marin county into contra costa county, alameda county, anywhere south of there we are seeing showers moving through. as we get a closer look right now in oakland as well as hayward, san ramon seeing some of the rain moving in. once again, most of it a lighter green so that indicates lighter rain. as you are driving to work this morning, many of the

vianey has a look at the roads. there's trouble spots definitely out there this morning. >> yeah, but first let's start with meteorologist, kari hall. she's tracking that rain. as laura was saying, make sure you pack it all, because you will need it. >> especially the santa hat. if you are able to, and i know a lot of people want to get an early start on the commute if you have a long road trip, but try and wait a little built because the rain will be tapering off as we go from 7:00 to 8:00 for much of the bay area. we are seeing that happening in sunnyvale, especially in the los altos area. very heavy rain over milpitas right now, and we will see that continue over the next couple of hours. we are looking at still some very active conditions out here, very sloppy and also some standing water on the roadways. that's going to cause problems as we start to see more of the rain coming through. look at the trend for the rest of the day. for fremont, we are seeing sunshine at 8:00, and it will have a chance to soak in as

vianey is in with us right now. lot's talk about the numbers. >> as you know, marcus, it took us a long time to get into the extreme drought. it's going to take a lot to get out of it. san francisco hit a new high. look at that. over 15 inches of rain. santa rosa has seen 21-plus inches of rain so far. even through rain shadows, san jose, 6 inches so far. we're doing pretty good from october 1st since july 1st. even though it may not put a major dent in our drought, look at the reservoirs. three of the reservoirs here, look at this. 56% of historical average. so these rainfall totals are helping boost that. in addition to that, as you know, we got a lot of snow. >> we're certainly good. >> right, exactly. you know, let's take a look at this. we're still doing, you know, pretty good when it comes to the yellows up here in the north bay. we saw a bit of an improvement. we went from an extreme to some moderate conditions. but 79% of the state of california remains under an extreme drought. so we still have several more

vianey arana, what is behind you? >> mount hamilton earlier today. that's all the snow. so much they closed off the observatory up there because of the snowy conditions. just to give you idea, peak top is 4,265 feet. we've seen snow levels drop to around 3,000 and could get to 1,800 feet by monday/tuesday. we're seeing those model runs start to align a little bit more. start out where we are now with the rain. you see this blue/pink mix, a wintry mix near mount hamilton area. majority of the heavy rain we saw earlier is moving south. we're not in the clear even though flood advisories were allowed to expire because of the concerns in past couple of days and debris flow. but stormranger is picking up wintry mix here and expecting chance of even more snow for the bay area snow tops here. going to get colder. if you like cold, fantastic. it's 40s but going to get into the 30s. i'll talk more about the cold air blast coming up in just a few minutes. >> lot of purple on that map. back out to the sierra. whiteout conditions. 80 closed from colfax to the nevada state line and n

he's in for vianey with our microclimate forecast. it's foggy and cold. we went to look at the holiday lights last night to squeeze it in before the rain comes. >> yeah, having the heater on, of course. after sunset last night, it dropped into the upper 30s. right now 43 degrees in san francisco. that's one of the warmer spots this morning. dublin down to 37 degrees. you see the fog there. visibility out towards livermore and dublin, about half a mile. look at san josÉ. we now dropped to 33 degrees out there at christmas in the park, very chilly to start the morning. the fog is patchy in nature. seeing some of it around the dublin, 580, 680 interchange. the fog will likely stick around, especially for the east bay and the north bay through about lunchtime. you see the time stamp there through 12:00. because of that we are going tough time warming up today. as you see there, a few high clouds starting to approach but the rain for now holding off to the west of the north bay. hour-by-hour, your temperatures as we get to lunchtime. by 3:00 in the afternoon
