in wisconsin, but i've got sweat equity in citizenship. right. so i am not proud of that that came out. that's embarrassing, to be known for locking up the most black then, now, come on, that can't be what it is. we have to go from having the conversation about it to implementing things and changes in it so that's why i wanted to have a presence here because so many letters i get from men who are still incarcerated, who was incarcerated and i'm there, and telling, we're not doing a good job of it. and the numbers, and you'll see in the book, it tells you that, 50, 60% of the people incarcerated in wisconsin have had experience in the system before. so let me use another example. and imagine it's a car company, right. imagine if a car company had 60% of the cars come back to the production line after two, three years off of the production line. right? congress would have a national debate, you know, trying to set this car company down because it's a danger, it's a risk to the community so i go back to getting back into society. look they're coming

. >> on sunday, november 21st and going through a crowd in the waukesha, wisconsin, and offering condolences and a moment of silence after their remarks. >> mr. president, on sunday, november 21st, 2021, a christmas parade in waukesha, wisconsin, meant to usher in a season of peace on earth, goodwill toward men, turned into a nightmare. one eight-year-old child and five adults were murdered. 62 others were injured. some of the injured, including three children, remain in critical condition, their lives forever altered. families with their children who came to see santa claus, high school bands, the dancing grannies, instead witnessed a horror that will leave lifelong psychological scars. first responders and law enforcement who rushed into administer first aid and compassionately deal with the tragedy will be burdened by their terrible memories for the rest of their lives. but as is so often the case, in the midst of an awful event caused by the worst in humanity, the absolute best of humanity is fully revealed. this is what we were witnessing in waukesha. the healing process has already beg

wisconsin has proven that byin e numbers. let's get into a little bit more about the wrongful conviction and one of the things that sort of impressed me in the power of the emotion in the book. you explain to folks that thereis a fair amount of solita. one was 460 days straight. >> it was 360 days into than itt was 800 the second time. >> so, that being alone in that space helping people and they are going to punish them for that. to say what it was like and compare, lock a puppy up for days at a time and let somebody tell on you andnd you will see what happens. so if it's not okay to do it to a pet, how is it okay to do it to a human being in any capacity. the time i was incarcerated they opened up the secure program. at the same thing that got us here now, jeffrey dahmer was killed in prison and they took that and waged a political war and they did it out of fear. when i started to realize that, i became interested in the prison system. so i had the ignorance of believing that these people were just making choices and that

also mindful of the reports that wisconsin has a higher rate of black men then any other. a black man in particular are 12 times more likely than white men to go to jail or prison in the state of wisconsin. about 6% of the states population, we represent about 42% of the population of individuals incarcerated. the story is extraordinary and very common. so i guess i will start their. he's rightfully received a great deal of attention and has been featured on nbc news and a cnn so with that, what more did you have to share? >> it's a long answer but i will shorten it for tonight. at the graduation they give you a diploma and i remember when the time came i remember running to my mother and wanting to give it to her. she started to cry and i said you know, i thought you were done crying and in time she said i'm crying because i know that you aren't going to go on and do big law and forget what it's like to be isolated on that island in the courtroom with no help. i know you're going to go and practice law and do something that will help other people out. so, i run off with a

wisconsin is a state, for example, that has very well-run elections. they have a tradition that goes back decades of nonpartisan election administration. they have paper ballots that are auditable throughout the state. they, in fact, audit those ballots regularly. they had more preelection litigation than ever before to clarify the rules. all of the rule changes that might have come about because of covid were done out in the open, and everyone knew about them and could challenge them if they wanted to. and they had more post-election litigation to confirm the results than ever before. in fact, there was a trump-appointed federal judge in wisconsin that ruled against president trump on the merits. found no merits to his claim of election fraud. in fact, president trump had the right to a full recount of the state -- that's under wisconsin law -- and he chose not to do that. and in fact, all the legislators that are now attacking election officials around the state -- most of them were on the ballot. the ballots that they are now questioning. um, this i

they want to take over federal elections in wisconsin. they want the gerrymandered legislature in wisconsin and/or elections because they're not comfortable with the fact they lost elections. they have completely fell out of step with the american people. they have been unresponsive to the needs of the american people when it comes to a health care system that delivers for everyone, when it comes to an economy that delivers for everyone, when it comes to addressing the climate crisis, they have left the american people behind. and the only way they feel they can win elections because it's the truth is if they cheat and they try to steal another race. >> and so then in the 20 seconds that we have left, lieutenant governor, what's -- you ran for lieutenant governor in 2018. what's changed since then in terms of fears about how republicans are restricting the access to vote? >> well, there are lots of fears because we see how -- we see across this entire country how many voter suppression bills were introduced in state legislatures. and we a

in wisconsin, over 90,000 ballots were illegally harvested. >> main, this is incredible. 90,000 in wisconsin. there were 31 -- not 31,000. 31. 205,000 more votes of people in pennsylvania. there are 26 possible cases of voter fraud. not even 26,000. 26. double-digit number. georgia, tens of thousands of dead people? well, they already debunked that, right? it was a handful. 64 possible voter fraud cases in all. i mean, this is incredible because people believe the stuff trump is saying. a lot of people. like, millions of people. but this study by "the ap" prove in excruciating detail, the six words that you have heard a million times this year. there was no widespread voter fraud. and we've seen those words from state after state. see them on your screen. look at these headlines, right? you know, citing trump's former attorney general bill barr had to say there was no fraud that would have impacted the results of the election. and yet, we have had to say it again and again. we have had to put these modifiers on there, you know, that there is no widespread fraud. and frankly, it's really frus
